Welcome to One Piece! Eiichiro Oda’s Masterpiece!

One Piece is the story of a young boy named Monkey D. Luffy who always dreamed of being a pirate. He had heard the stories of Gold D. Roger, the Pirate King, who, it’s said had found One Piece, the greatest treasure in the Grand Line.

Luffy, when younger had hung around with a Pirate gang and this is how he met Shanks. Shanks and his crew always made fun of Luffy’s dream to be a pirate, but at the same time encouraged him. Luffy promised Shanks, that one day he'd form an amazing crew that would beat Shanks' own, find One Piece and become the Pirate King. Shanks in turn gave Luffy his straw hat for safe keeping, until he became a great pirate.

Shanks had discovered the gomu gomu fruit on the Grand Line.. guess who ate it because he was hungry? This fruit then turned Luffy into a rubber man. The only downfall for those with devil fruit abilities, is that if they fall in water, they turn into a dead-weight and sink. (and if you get some really silly fruit).

One Piece begins with Luffy leaving his island to become a pirate, find a crew in his goal to become the next Pirate King and find the legendary treasure Roger hid, One Piece!

He first meets Roronoa Zoro, an amazing pirate hunter with a three-sword technique. He saves him from the marines, and somehow gets Zoro to join him. While acquiring new crew, Luffy and friends must also fight off many interesting adversaries, many with devil fruit abilities.

With outstanding character development and amazing and surprising fights, this anime and manga has become one of the most popular in Japan!

The most amazing theme for me in this story is friendship and fighting for your ‘nakama’ (comrade). Each individual crew member has his or her own individual reasons to join Luffy, but when they fight for each other, its just simply amazing. Once you read or see the show, you’ll run into amazing people every step of the way. It may be angst waiting for the next episode or manga chapter, and wonder how the show is going to end (still running anticipate 180+ episodes) but that shows just how great One Piece really is!
