ive watched some of this anime.. found it very interesting. but i never had the intire set of dvd's.. so what exactly happens in the end..

and dont say.. well i dont want to spoil it for you.. cause i dont care...

i finally finished lain yesterday..

well i dont know where you ended so i will start here...
lain thought it would be best if she didn't exist in the peoples mind since she was causing a lot of disturbance to friends and others (wired lain).. so she erased everyones memory and reset their memorys to a new time... back to where Yomodo Chisa was alive except this time she wont suicide.. The link between the dead and living through wired was destroyed.. the so called Deus supposedly died...
this is the last scene, where Alice the friend of Lain is an adult (she also has a husband i think) and they are walking and alice sees lain on the bridge, walks up to her and says "have we met before" (something like that, note lain is still herself, if you didn't understand the story then this is the explanation: Lain is not human (as you know) so she does not age, nor die but everything around her does.. ) they both say hi to each other then alice leaves with her husband/bf.. and lains final words are something like i see everything...

if you didn't understand any of that just ask again and i will explain anything..
i think its quite sad for lain..

 

Hahaha just remembered I had asked about this... Thanx for that explenation... I understood. tho I did not know Lain was not human.. But i feel like seeing it all..

I think Lain was born from deus but im not sure if they're one and the same. Deus is what happened when Eiri Masami, the person who restarted the "Kids" project died and left his physical body behind. I think he was powerful because of the "kids" project

 

My personal opinion is that Lain (or her essence, or whatever) is what made the whole thing possible in the first place. Deus was just a wannabe, an interloper, and in the end he finds out that really was the case. When Lain figures out that her existence is what made it possible for Deus to exist in the first place, she tries to erase her influence from the world to set everything right.

This series really demands rewatching. I'm in the middle of another extended rewatching right now (about an ep a week) and am still gleaning new things from it.
