he probably wouldnt have travelled either and im wondering if he really would have participated in the battle for Toba Fushimi

I think that Kenshin would've finished fighting in the Bakumatsu, then live with Tomoe like he said he would, and only have one scar, rather than two. But it's hard to tell...

 

But eventually, bandage-face would've come back to challange Kenni.

 

but would they have had to use Shishio at all if Kenshin wasnt so depressed after her death.

 

Ahhhh... yes... or would they still need bandage-face, if Kenshin decided to settle down as a farmer with Tomoe, like he planned to?

I'm assuming that it's ok to start saying spoilers in the thread freely now, so I won't put 'em in the spoiler tags.

Well, I believe Kenshin told Tomoe something along the lines of: I will keep fighting until the Revolution is over, but then I'll live with you and make sure that you are happy. So he wouldn't of settled down then, he wasn't going to let all of the lives he took go to waste, he was going to ensure that the new era came before he stopped fighting (I think...I may remember wrong...). Therefore I don't think that they'd need Shishio too much... (or was it that Kenshin had been discovered that made him be replaced?)

 

they had decided to give Shishio Makoto the role of "shadow hitokiri" whilest Kenshin would emerge into the light and protect the patriots in Kyoto...
