Throughout history, we see countless people murder, pilage, etc. etc. Hitler is a classic example. High school is another one. Is mankind truly so selfish, ignorant, and cruel? I'd like to discuss this. Please keep on subject. This isn't a morality debate.

Yes... mankind IS truly so selfish, ignorant and cruel. It has been that way since the beginning. Even some animals show such traits, and even the story of Adam and Eve held those traits.

Of course. The thing that we had come to call human nature is a cruel thing indeed. Murders come from vengeance, or, perhaps, simply, the descend of human thinking down to the primal level of human nature. Pillaging comes from bloodlust, another primal level of human nature that is not as uncontrolled, but nevertheless is still reckless and deadly.

High school... is where the children develop their own primal level of human nature. Your social ranking in the high school will matter for the four years that you participate in it, and whether it be something underhanded as giving your homework or helping someone cheat on a test, and perhaps beating the crap out of another, or be it helping someone else honestly... the want to do something that pleases the community is very tempting. Some have the courage and the cruelty to carry out - those on the top of the ladder, who have supporters. Victims are only stepping stones to the journey of others. In a way, high school is a government branch of its own, but don't mind my silly similes.

I see it as the instinct to survive. The problem is that since we no longer really need to struggle against nature, that we turn on each other to release these aggressive feelings.

And another thing that contributes to how we handle these instincts depends on the enviroment in which we're raised, and also mental state can affect this too. Like in Hitler's case, he had a serious inferiority complex(for one he was pretty short), and some big rejection issues.

Just an interesting note, did you ever notice that a majority of history's conquerors were pretty short? Think of Napolean, Alexander, and Hitler.

Mankind s true nature is to survive, and they will do this in any fashion that they see fit just as long as they can live.

We have a tendansey to protect what is ours and those that we love and if anyone or anything threatin's that then we become very distructive, very fast.

This is why many people work there asses off for most of their lives cause they want to either go out and have fun so that they can say that they live life to the full, or they want to help give they're children a better life by giving them a proper start in life so that they can go out and enjoy life and do the same for their kids. So this, still at some unrealised level, shows that humans are here to survive and live.
