I was just wondering what the difference is b/c well, not to sound mean, but they sound the same to me. I just want to know I really like Japanese but when I hear Chinese I get confused. I just get really confused with the two, I hope no one is mad because I asked this question. :shy3:
Yes, there is a difference. Even in writing. I can't really explain well, seeing as I'm no speaker of Mandarin...but it sounds a bit more nasal to me. Japanese, however, is soft spoken, and it shows in their written language/oral too. There are similiarities though, like using kanji and such. But, there are also quite a few german and english words mixed into nihongo as well. I used to think it sounded really similar before too. But, once I just sat and listened it's easy. Sorry, I am of no help on this subject at all. Perchance, Teddz could answer you better.
more in the gutteral actally in japanese. Living with a few gives ya the advantage of knowing also being chinese in all not to sound so much of a gloat hog
I think Japanese has katagana and hiragana in there writing any Chinese don't writing wise and they only have kanjiish writing, but I'm not that sure. It's really hard to explain the over all diffence of the language though...
As far as the writing system goes, Chinese has a century or so on Japanese, through the kanji (stolen from Chinese but altered in meaning and reading). Chinese has more distinct dialects, while Japanese is divided into ideolects (the differences are smaller, more like the difference between one town and another in the same country) Chinese has Cantonese, a native form, and Mandarin, imported by I believe the invading Mongols (help? not sure) Japanese is much more gutteral than Chinese - and easier to yell! The sounds are more distinct to the ear of the Gai-Jin, while Chinese sounds tend to blend. Biggest difference, though: Chinese is from China, Japanese is from Japan
is it just me, or are ****ed up stupid questions like these such a ****ing piss offf? its like saying, "all azian people are the same. there aint no difference. they all sound the same. they all look the same. they all eat the same. they all do this the same. and do that the same." is it just me, or does it feel like non asians are patronising asians? "French and english are COMPLETELY different, whilest chinese and Japanese are all the same thing." i dont know, i think it is just me, but i think that that was a **** hole of a ****ed up question to ask. *sighs well, i guess that is just my opinion. the two sound different. chinese has more short words. whilst, japanese has to say more sylablles to get a word out. the writing is different too. there is a lot of chinese in japanese, but japanese's own words are more wavy, and harder to write, whiles chinese is all lines, and alot more edges. *sighs. uyeah, well, i dont know. thats wat i think anyway.
I did not mean to be rude or mean I just whated to know If I offended you in anyway im sorry. I was not sure I should have asked this question, but I did and I am sorry I just wanted to know.
People's points of veiw are all different, some people think it's all the same(WHICH IS NOT BLOOD_PHEONIX! Thank you very much) others don't(like me and few that answered here) Gomen Pneonix but it is different just like english and french they ARE sounding similar but they mostly have different meaning
BP, settle down... its a simple mistake to make for those first hearing the language. She didnt mean it offensively. I mean, if you took a Japanese person, and had them listen to English, then German or French, they might have a hard time understanding too. Relax.
Hehe, neph, they'd have an easier time distinguishing because English is a required subject in school, is it not? And japanese uses quite a few german words as well. ^_^
i know is in hong kong but not quite sure in japan gomen but every lauage is different and when i person says that two lauages sound the same it bugs me a little but BP ...it sounded very offensive
People have to learn things somehow. Until they are educated on a subject, they will always sound rash and, frankly, ignorant. At least Quis wants to learn.
Yes I take quite a offence when some moron can't tell the diffence between Chinese, Korean, and Japanese especially when he's a freaking Korean himself. There is a huge difference between what seems to be the favorite language around here (Japanese) and the language this topic is asking the contrasting upon (Chinese), but it's quite difficult to explain. One reason is because unlike it's predecessor, Japanese is quite a simple language; Chinese on the other hand is quite complex with over 20+ dialects; (Not sure on these numbers, gotta get back ya) 2 two which are Cantonese and Mandarin which we are so familiar with. Most of the written style comes from China, so it's expected that it may look similar, but if you take a closer look you can see that the Chinese written language is quite different: Hello in Chinese (Mandarin) Hello in Japanese Hello in Korean
is it just me, or do i not understand what u r going on about? anywayz....... i apologize for sounding to harsh, but i aint deleting or changing my post, cause thats my opinion.
Yes you are entitled to your opinions and that's fine, it's your opinion and I will respect it. But I think the starter of this thread was just wonder what are some of the diffence between the language not because she THINKS all azn people look and sound alike, but because she KNOWS that they are different and just wants to know how it is different.
BP, you have a horrible habit of jumping the gun and viewing people as racist when they really arent.
I should have never even asked , I am not racist, I just want to know how everyone is different b/c I know there not the same but I want to know how. Anyway I hope people out there don't think I am a horrible person if you want I chould just delete the thing althoughter. Thanks for all the people who understand that I just want to learn. I am truely sorry if I mad anyone upset.:shy3
no. i am sorry for skitzing it, and no, dont delete the thread, but like i said before, i aint deleting my post, cause thats my opinion.
