When I played through FFVII for the third time Cloud did not want to learn Meteorain. When I got to disc 3 he learned it.On my first playthrough he got right after the first battle after I left Midgar.

What triggers learning of limit breaks?

I came to think that it came from how many times you use the Limit Break.

I might be sorely mistaken though.

actually, it is determined by how many times you use the break...

I think it depends on your Level, Your stats, and the number of times you used the limit break.

Ahh...finally, I can act like I know something again!

The first Limit Break of every level is based on kill counts. In order to learn it, you'll have to ensure that character knocks off enough enemies...

The second Limit Break is directly linked to the first of the same level, and its uses. So, to get Cross-Slash, you're required to use Braver a number of times...in this respect it is quite possible to learn Climhazzard or Meteorain before even lowly Cross-Slash (!)

I forget what the exact kill count or limit use numbers are, but I know that's how they work. Oh! And to learn each character's Level 4 Limit, you need a special item for each. They'll only be able to use this item after learning every other Limit Break...

A great way to learn a new limit break is to go to the easy enemies from near the beginning of the game, I remember one that was red and it attacked really fast. But every time any enemy hits you your Limit guage goes up, and if you fight the fast and easy guys then you gain your limits more easily.

To coincide with guy, lemme add that limit gauges go up according to how badly you are harmed...so go out fighting with a low defense, and the bar will rise quicker...

    I know something!!!!

    Here is the breakdown!!!

    (Non-Vincent Characters)
7 uses triggers the second limit of that level, 80 Kills Triggers a new level.

    (Vincent)
    60 Kills for next level

    Level 4 Limits require Items

Omnislash(Cloud): Get it in Battle Square

    Final Heaven(Tifa): Piano in Nibelheim

CosmicBlast/Whatever lol(Red XIII) Safe in Nibelheim Mansion

    Chaos(Vincent):Lucrecia's Cave

Kait Sith:Who really cares....she only has two....

Planet Protector(Aeris):Talk to the sleeping guy when the last two digits of Battles fought are the same (like 411 or 101055). He gives you mythril. take it to the weapon smiths house. go upstairs and pick the small box.

Yuffie:pagoda of the five gods challenge thingy

    Cid: Not sure...

    Barrett: Not sure....

Yuffie's weapon is in the Sunken Gelnika..where the power reactor is, isn't it? You search near there, and you find this REALLY big eight point shuriken, I think. I don't remember it's name though.

Barret's weapon is before you fight that evil scientist dude, make sure you have him in your party, and you see it on the steps on the way to the fight.

And...Cait Sith's weapon is in Shin-Ra headquarters in the lockers of the gym floor. I forget the floor number, though.

You guys, thank you so much for the info! I'm currently battling through ff7 and I need all the help I can get. I had no idea how these limit breaks worked.

Oh and re: Cait's weapon (the megaphone) I believe it's on the Shinra building's 65th floor (the one with the recreation area). But Cloud won't take it during Aeris' rescue ;_;. I'll check my source book and edit the post if I'm wrong.

Yeah, I'm using a strategy guide. I'm an idiot ><

NO YOU HAVE IT ALL WRONG!!!!!
look the limit break is triggered by killing eniemes.
    here i'll explain.
ok you want cloude to lv.up his limits ok first of all the person you want the limit break up is the person you use. sooooo kill of all the charates but cloude in your team have him kill all the enimes the limits don't go up by using them the number of monsters killed is how you get them.
    BUT-----
if you summon on a group its only concidered as killing ONE enemy
so be patiant and have the person you want to get the limits for kill as many enemies as possable.
hahaha i actually got tifa's lv. 3 limits before she was done her lv.2 hahaha

just so you know it has NOTHING to do with how many times you use them.
FYI- its fun to have omni-slash at the battle after areis dies.

and if you can't belive me then you can't belive anyone......
