Video Games What's the point?!

    Okay, this is gonna sound so incredibly stupid that it's not even funny. I've had Final Fantasy VIII (8) since it first came out and I haven't beat it yet. I got to the end but something happened to my data and I cast it away into a dark corner. I've recently picked it up and started playing it again. I've actually NEVER understood the storyline. It's been confusing for me. I mean, sometimes I think I understand but I don't. Would someone be so kind as to put Final Fantasy 8 into lamen terms for me! Pretty-Please!

    Been a while since I played FFVIII(maybe like last September)this maybe a little sketchy.............

    FFVIII was about a sorceress from the future(Ultimecia) that had inteded on using sorceress' from the past to create time compression,where all time would be put together into one moment,(yes,it is odd)after this Ultimecia would take over the world.

    the main plot is stopping the sorceress, ultimeccia. pretty much, at the beginning of the game, time is a little loopy as is(thus is why squal and co pop into laguna and co's time in them). first you have to spot edea, then you go after the other one(that uses rinao as a human shield) and then ultimacia a couple times. her goal is to join past and present as one. doign such will cause the power of the sorceress' to join, as the power can be passed down and deminished. this way, all that power is combined into her. making her free to rule one moment in time forever.it's kinda messed up, what with trying to figure out(on your own as it never really says) who in your party is laguna's daughter( i figure selphy, look t her and how she act..lol) and little other things about the ppl and the world. but the ultimecia thing is the main thing.

    Time to build on what BB said! She got all of it, I'll just try to get the little tidbits. :D

    Ultimecia's plans don't become apparent until the third disc, where you're wondering why Edea went cuckoo. And yeah, Ultimeciea's ultimate plan was to absorb Ellone's power to view and "send people" to the past. Also, Ultie-chan wanted to absorb the powers of Adel, the previous Sorceress that tried to rule the world.

    What's strange though, is that this actually all started in the orphanage. In the ending, you see Squall get transported after the Time Compression to when Edea was the matriarch of the orphanage. She finds Ultimecia dying, and since she does not want the children to become sorceresses, she absorbs Ultimecia's power. I'm pretty sure that this is why she gets possessed in the beginning of the game, since it was easy to trace her.

    Oh, BTW, the possessions take place because Professor Odine made a machine that can actually imitate, to an extent, Ellone's powers to send people into the minds of others.
