The origins of my nick are lost in the depths of time, alas. If I tried to explain where it came from I would undoubtadly fall short.
When I first arrived here I knew hardly anything about anime, but I wanted an avatar that was sort of metalish. So I choose Iron man(ya know, the Black Sabath song).

    my name means 'to shine'

hika, i think, is light or fire. hikaru is actually such a common name, but since me friend (you know who u r, matey) and i were so into getting our own japanese names, and she found me this name, which is supposed to fit me well (?) so wa-la!

Hikaru is a name for guys sometimes, or so I've heard, actually, isn't some guy in Ranma named Hikaru?? -_- anyways, for those who may not know, I'm a downright female!!

there, my explanation is done *bow, bow*

Well, Hikaru, you're right. The Ranma character is Gosunkugi Hikaru and he's...the creepy-candle-wearing-excorist-nobody that nobody really pays attention to.

And yeah, it's a pretty feminine name, but Ukyou is a really male name...and one of the kawaii iinazuke has that appellation. :D

Well my name sort of came from a nickname my brothers friends gave me, well they pretty much kept on forgetting my name so they called me "that guy"... it sort of got annoying because Roman kept on running up to me and saying "hey it's that guy!" @_@x. But the name sort of stuck, but I think that the name came from Trigun because Vash was called "that guy" a lot ;)

    Stating the obvious

Eheheh... Well, I'm called Legato because I love the Trigun Character "Legato" (duh) so what I'll do instead is describe the very clever pun that is Legato's name. Legato means to run together smoothly, or just "smooth" which legato definately is, but it's root meaning means "to bind" or tie up, and legato is bound to knives, in a kinky coat, and his arm is tied to his side, so, yeah, clever huh?

I actually found an Avatar on here that looked like me but I wanted to use the legato one anyway. Also it was from series called "atelier Marie" which I've never even heard of.

I was watching Gundam Wing's last episodes again (in Japanese, this time) and I got on a creative high and came up with the name Phox Larimede for an original character (who I'm gonna use in a novel instead of an anime). I like Stardust. I didn't wanna be GataFairy AGAIN. So I choce Stardust Phox. ^^ (Now I kinda wish I'd used GataFairy, but Stardust Phox works. ^^)

I've done this many times before...

...actually several, but here goes for anyone who's missed out.

Before you guys all jump on my bad words and grammar, keep in mind that it's a made-up name, so it doesn't necessarily have to make sense.

BakaMattSu is a play on several things:

-the Bakumatsu, or the end of the Japan dynasty.
    -my own name, Matt
-every anime fan's favorite word, Baka, which for the newbies means "idiot", "jerk", or "stupid"

So what do I take it to mean?

"Matt is a big idiot" :D

or to lesser extent, "the end of stupidity"...

    lesson over...

Wolfwood in Japanese is said Urufuurudo. Now in Japan there was a band called Ulfuls which was also pronounced Urufu, the bands jammin' guitarist was used as Wolfwoods real life model regarding build face and dress sense. Similar to Midvalleys' name it is a pun, which the Japanese seem to really like.

Dont take this the wrong way, but when I saw ToOmas name I thought it was based after the beasts of burden from TRIGUN the Toma.
    Just misinterpretation, no offence meant.

Heyyo, UK here dropping in for a little entertainment during my summer of exile. Just thought I might enlighten a few more things I just browsed over before I go over to Misc and post my update for those who wanna know (for some undiscernable reason)
Kamikaze (god or divine wind) comes originally from when the Mongols tried to invade Japan, they were driven away by an amazingly strong wind, that's where the term Kamikaze kame from initially. in WW2, the Japanese took the name and applied it to suicide bombers, perhaps in an attempt to emulate that power from so long ago.
I believe someone also mentioned Ulfuls. Fun band, I like their stuff.
My name's origin should be obvious, but it also comes from a night in the napster chatrooms with MO, I stole it from him and have used it since with great panache.
