    Which is better for a site: frames or no frames? Which do you prefer? Which is easier to navigate…?

    Frames look really awesome, the problem with them is compatibility... some browsers can't handle them :( Although I have no clue how to use them, can anyone tell me? >.<

    My friend sent me the HTML codes for a frames site and taught me the basics. This is what it looks like (well you have to click it to see it ^^) -->Serendipity.

    And the non-frames version (which I'm working on right now, since it's so easy :D) is here. :catgirl:

    Tell me what you think.

    I decided to make a non-frames version b/c people can't link to a specific page in the frames version. (It comes out all messed up if they do. All the links open in another browser window)

    ^^; Thanks for the site. Me goes check it later. :catgirl:

    Arigatou Minna for the frames tutorials ;) I know a bit of html, I usually use dreamweaver 2 to make my websites and I can't figure frames out in there either @_@x I sort of like making sites without frames, although methinks my page would look better using frames : The Domain of the Hitokiri

    Looks fine... but definitely needs some work on the visual design. For example, using a bgcolor not being black... perhaps a background wallpaper... a bit larger fonts...

    And one or two decoration images.

    Frames are fun! Oh that reminds me to add a "frames here" link for my main pages. :D

    To learn html...

    Frankly i find better using manual HTML hand-coding for my webpages.

    They key is knowing to translate your ideas into written text.

    For example, if you want a webpage with a large menu on the left you could use:

    <table width="25%" align="left" hspace="12">
    <tr><td>
    (And here we insert a visible table)
    <table border="4" cellpadding="8"><tr><td>
    Latest news!<br>
    <br>
    blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
    </td></tr></table></td></tr></table>

    WELCOME TO MY HOMEPAGE!

    Good pages use LOTS of tables. Just make sure your main text is NOT inside a table or it will take years for it to be seen. Unless of course, it's absolutely necessary.

    <hr>

    blahblah

    A good thing is downloading an HTML tutorial from the web. For frames i check the html handbook and try to do my best. It's not that hard. Just remember to use the "target" modifiers and voila.

    Actually, the hardest part in making a webpage is the design. You make some sketches on paper, and then put them in code. The "programming" is VERY easy - unless of course you plan to use a lot of javascript and cascading style sheets.

    If anyone's using a frame that doesn't support frames in this day and age, I think it's time to move past Windows 3.1 :D

    But, to get more serious, I have to put in my thoughts..

    Which do I prefer? Well, no frames, generally. Why? Wellll...

    1) Framesets usually look VERY ugly...
    2) Bookmarking is a pain, as Phox said
    3) Each page in a frameset gets loaded at the same time, and I'm still a modem user....so that can sometimes take a toll.

    They're not nearly as bad as popups though....*shiver*

    Which is easier to navigate? Usually frames...but once again it depends. I've seen *horrible* frame designs, and excellent ones as well...it's all down to the programmer/designer I guess...

    okay im going with baka~ I HATE FRAMES!!!! they just get on my nerves always; guess i dont like the breaks in the pages etc just one continuous window is my cup of tea and like baka said as to which is easier to navigate it depends on the person in charge ive seen framed sites that i get completely lost in and ones that are quite simple so yeah

    ~throws two cents on the ground~
