I prefer non-turn based, simply because the moves you can do look so much cooler. The movements are more liquid, while turn-based always look the same.

Well, considering that most of my favourite games are in turn-based mode, I had to say that. Really, I'd prefer non-TB battles, but all the really good RPG's (with the exception of the .hack series) are turn based.

    The advantages to turn-based gaming:
-more focus on strategy than button mashing
    -thumbs don't get as sore
-can sit back and watch your plan in action
-more time to think about your move
-big name games (like FF series or Xenosaga)

    The disadvantages:
-kind of takes you out of the world, at times as if you're not really playing
-animations can get a little repetative
    -some systems lack depth
    -less focus on skill
    -can get really unrealistic

I went with turn-based also. I just feel it keeps the gaming more organized and easier to follow.
