Well, I'm not really sure 'coz I didn't watch the whole episodes. But I think Taka is Tamahome's reincarnation in Miaka's world. In the first OVA episode, Tamahome kinda disappeared and he appeared in Miaka's world...but his name is Taka (forgot the surname, though...). He doesn't remember anything much except for Miaka...I think he doesn't even remember that he was a Suzaku Seishi...and so on the second episode of the OVA, they spent their time finding Tamahome's memory stone so they could give it to Taka and he would remember everything...

I just saw the ova which is called [The Mysterious Play], and I recomand that you watch it unless you want to be spolied :p

But I will say who is Taka anyway, it depens on you ;)

Taka is Tamahome without his memory, you see, so that tama can live hapily ever after with miaka, he has to lose all his memories and they are stored in some crystal balls, so, he is called taka. Untill he get all the balls [i.e. his all memories] back, he can be called tamahome once agian.. :)

Mysterious Play is actually the American Translation of Fuushigi Yuugi. A pretty direct one. Fushigi = Mysterious, Hidden and Yuugi = Play (on a stage, i believe).

Yeah, Taka is the reincarnation of Tamahome, but without the skills and memories.

As far as i remember, the box's are separated by the symbol on them. There's the Suzaku box, the Seiryu box, the Oni box, and that new one with the phoenix on it.

In the Third OAV, he is Taka, and he remembers everything. So yeah, Taka is Tamahome reborn, but when he regrains his memories he doesn't clal hismelf Tamahome again. Come on, Taka is a common guy's name, Tamahome was the Japanese tranlation of the Chinese Constellation and it means Battle and Family (Yuu worked hard on these translations) so it's not normal for someoen to be claled that so his new name is Taka.

His last name btw is Sukunami. ;)

Word of advice: ignore the first OVA (3 episodes), and just watch the second and third. The first has no basis in anything, and even confused Yuu Watase. It was created by the anime company to fix a problem that didn't exist (Tamahome being Taka). Here's what happens as far as the manga/novels goes, in relation to the anime:

    SPOILER WARNING

About half of the manga, give or take, comprises the series (52 episodes), which ends with Tamahome and Miaka being separated, and then Miaka finding Taka (Tamahome) in her world. Tamahome's already been reborn as Taka, without his memories and without his seishi powers. No problem. However, the anime company didn't think the series explained this at all (despite the slight hair color change and the fact that Taka fits in so well with Tokyo).

So they created the first OVA (3 episodes), which was supposed to explain how end-of-series-Taka was actually Tamahome, and ended up back in the book and then being reborn. Not necessary.

Then we get the second OVA (6 episodes), which is the second half of the manga. In it, we have Taka, sans memories of being a seishi in the Shi Jin Ten Shi Shou (Universe of Four Gods; Four Gods Sky and Earth) and sans seishi powers, and the whole trouble with ending up back in the book world searching for his memories. By the end, he remembers being Tamahome, but (if I recall correctly) he still doesn't have his seishi powers. He and Miaka return to Tokyo.

Then there's the third OVA (Eikoden, 4 episodes), which is based off of one of the novels, written by someone else but with Yuu Watase's approval (and artwork). It takes place about 3-4 years after the end of the series, give or take. Miaka and Taka marry and are going to have a baby, when a girl who's in love with Taka (her teacher) finds the Universe of Four Gods and triggers the spell, drawing herself into the book world as the new Suzaku no Miko. She's also managed to take Miaka's baby and put it in her own womb. Taka follows her into the book world, and goes on a "mission" to save it, because it's decaying.

Conclusion: don't watch the second OVA, unless it's for the bus trips (omake) at the end of each of the three episodes. Don't believe anything it says, either.

The Gaiden series, is the series of novels that Eikouden is from, they all focused on the seishi's lives (except Eikouden). Suzakuhiden, the one about Hotohori, is mentioned in the Eikouden OAV. Lets' see...
    Gendrouden (about Tasuki)
    Shoryuden (about Chichiri)
    Yukiyashaden (about Nuriko)
    Ryuseiden (about Amiboshi and Suboshi)
    Suzakuhiden (Hotohori)
    Seiraden (about Nakago)
    The last two are Eikouden.
Appartently there are more after Eikouden ( probably one abotu Chiriko and another about Mitsukake)
The third OAV DVD came with a neat little booklet chock full of Fushigi Yuugi info! :D

    ^^;

And there I thought Eikouden was done by Yuu her self. If you ask me it sounds kinda lame guess I'll have to watch it for myself.

Indeed. Eikoden is a good example of how a self-insert fanfiction should be (more or less).
