I like to many to even choose an author. There are some good ones that I have read. Then there are the ones I am currentily reading which I wouldn't call my favorite. Hard to choose.

Edgar Allen Poe, Chrisopher Knight, villers De Is'le, And Donna boyd. keep in mind that I'm not much of a reader, and only have read a few books and only one of each of these writers except Poe.

Orson Scott Card (Ender series), Larry Niven (Ringworld series), Philip Pullman (His Dark Materials trilogy), and William Shakespeare are the big four right now. Though Steven Hawking, Frank Herbert (Dune series), and Grady L. Owens are also up there. :anime:

    Could'a sworn I posted here...

Oh well. For non-japanese authors, I'd have to say Mercedes Lackey. Her 'Mage Wars' series is a truly amazing... series. :p

Containing the books "The Black Gryphon," "The White Gryphon," and "The Silver Gryphon," The Mage Wars focuses initially on a war... between mages. :p (Aptly named series, I guess) It then follows the refugees from the war as they have travelled south, and their sudden interaction with the "Haighlei," an empirical nation far to the south.

I won't go on, due to spoilers, but Ms. Lackey has a real way with words, and she's written three very excellent novels here. (Now, if I can find the rest of her books...)

'Coin Locker Babies' is so disgusting and graphic that... I really, really love it. XD

It had me shouting. "Nooooo, Hashi.... You're gay, dammit. Don't marry that woman...!!" XD

Ian M Banks, my favorite by miles, or probably parsecs... Philip Pullman is good. I like a lot of sci-fi from old school like Robert Heinlien and Philip K |)ick [that you cant say a persons name is stupid], Frank Herbert to new stuff like Ian Banks. William Gibson is great, too. He uses a lot about Japan in his books, that always works with me. Who did the Shadow of the Torturer? Tad Williams is pretty good too and Neil Stephenson, but his latest Quicksilver books are just too hard going for me, Cryptonomicron was excellent though.

I do not like JK Rowling.
