I am doing some research for a business. I was wondering if you could take the time to post your answers to a couple of questions.

    1. Who is your favorite JPop band?

    2. Would pay to go see them in concert &/or performing @ a convention in the USA?

    3. If you had to go to a conventionto see them, would you pay extra (on top of con badge price) to see the band?

    4. What would be a fair extra charge to see your favorite JPop band.

I just want to say thank you in advance to everyone who posts on this thread. I will run a poll later on to see what the top 3 - 5 JPop bands are so be sure to vote there too.

I'm compiling a list of bands... so here it goes...

    JPop:

Ai Otsuka, aiko, Asobi Seksu, Asian Kung-fu Generation?, Ayumi Hamasaki, Aya Matsuura, Back horn, Beat Crusaders, BoA, Caroline, D&D, Denki Groove, Do As Infinity, Dragon Ash, F.I.R, GTS, HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR, Hiro, HITOMI, Hitomi Yaida, Home Made Kazoku, JJ Lin, Ken Hirai, Ketsumeishi, KOTOKO, Koda Kumi, Lee Jung Hyun, Love Psychedelico, Maaya Sakamoto, Maki Goto, Melon Kinen bi, Misia, Miki Fujimoto, Miz, Morning Musume, Nami Tamaki, Natsumi Abe, Pu, See Saw, Shu, Shiina Ringo, Sweetbox, Tanpopo, The Brilliant Green, Tsai Jolin, Tommy February6/Heavenly6, Utada Hikaru, Viyuden, W, w-inds, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Youhna, YUI

    Thanks ^^) and....

    RIght now, its Rhymester.

I like BOA, T.M, Dir, Ciel and the other bands, that I am too lazy in listing.

:D OK, I knew that there would be a lot of bands out there that I didn't know. Do they (Rhymester, Ketsumeishi, High and Mighty Color, BOA, T.M) have any songs I might know from an anime or game? I have heard Lar~en~Ciel and I like their stuff (FMA Fan that I am *giggle). I was half expecting Lee Jung Hyun to show up, but then again I think they are a Korean band, but I like their stuff. BTW... See Saw is pretty cool too (.Hack)

Shiome & Shen: Post me more info on your band choices so that I can place if I have heard them. I would most likely know them from anime or game since that is how I am normally exposed to JRock and JPop. I have on occasion found out about a band through cosplayers (Lee Jung Hyun is one of them) and I love to try new things ^^) it keeps life interesting.

Also, can you tell me if you would do any of the other questions? I know that for a couple of bands I like it would be yes to #2 and #3 and if the convention price was under $40, then I would pay up to $35 on top of that. It would depend on which band, how many bands, and what else was happening at the convention I was at. It is money that would end up in the dealers room so I would rather go listen to some great music :p THANKS ^^)

I don't think Ketsumeishi has done any music for games or anime but some of their highlight songs are: Sakura, Namida, Natsu no Omoide, Tomodachi amongst others.

High and Mighty Color's debut single (I think) came about from Gundam Seed: Destiny's 2nd opening theme Pride. They have since released decent songs including Days and Run Run Run

    1. I'd have to say I enjoy Hayashibara Megumi, Lia, and Every Little Thing more than most. (Although I think Every Little Thing is J-rock, not J-pop. Iunno) I've heard more of their songs than any other J-pop group, and I've liked the majority of them.

    2. Probably yes, but I'd rather it be in Canada, seeing as I live there. Still, I might scrape the money together to go to one if it was in North America. If it were well put together and planned, it'd be quite an experience, I think. ;)

3, and 4. If I had to pay extra...? Probably it would depend on how much the badge cost and how much extra it would be. Anime North, for example, costs $45(CAN) for the weekend, I might pay up to $20(CAN) extra to see one of them in concert while I was there. I don't want to spend all of my money on getting into things, though, I'd rather spend it purchasing the hundreds of dollars worth of stuff I usually buy. :p

That help your market research? :p

Sure it helps and THANKS!! ^^) I volunteered for this because it was more up my alley and I have photographed so really cool cosplayers that are into JRock and JPop. It has exposed me to more of the music that is out there and I just love to find out new and interesting things.

When I was in HS I was really into music, but since I had kids I fell away from knowing them like I used to. It has only been in the last five years that I started researching the music scene and only the last year and a half for J music. So I know that there is lots to learn.

I haven't been up to Canada for a convention yet *giggle (I will be though), but I have been to Canada to visit family in Fruitvale and we traveled all across Canada when I was a kid. Nice country. Hope to get back up there in the next two years. I will be up at Sakura Con 06, that may be as close as I get next year... so I'll have to plan on Canada by 07, if it doesn't conflict with everything else that is falling into place for 07.

    1. Bad question. Right here goes (Yes, they are all favorites...some are Korean/Chinese too.)

Ai Otsuka, aiko, Asobi Seksu, Asian Kung-fu Generation, Ayumi Hamasaki, Aya Matsuura, Back horn, Beat Crusaders, BoA, Bump Of Chicken, Caroline, D&D, Denki Groove, Do As Infinity, Dragon Ash, Dir En Grey, ELLEGARDEN, F.I.R, GLAY, GTS, HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR, Hiro, HITOMI, Hitomi Yaida, Home Made Kazoku, JJ Lin, Ken Hirai, Ketsumeishi, KOTOKO, Koda Kumi, Lee Jung Hyun, Luna Sea, L’Arc En Ciel, Love Psychedelico, Mad Capsule Markets, Maaya Sakamoto, Maki Goto, meister, Melon Kinen bi, Misia, Miki Fujimoto, Miz, Morning Musume, Natsumi Abe, OLIVIA, ORANGE RANGE, Porno Graffiti, Pu Shu, Shiina Ringo, Sweetbox, Tanpopo, The Pillows, The Brilliant Green, Tsai Jolin, Tommy February6/Heavenly6, Utada Hikaru, UVERworld, Viyuden, W, w-inds, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Youhna, YUI.

    2. US? No. Europe? Hell YEAH! If it were Morning Musume, I'd KILL to see a concert. Just seeing Eri Kamei goes "Nyaah" *Peace sign* makes me wanna go HNGF. I'd also like to see AKFG, Orange Range and OLIVIA, if possible.

I hear Shiina Ringo have kick-ass concerts...

    3. If it were Morning Musume, or any other Hello!Project band, I'd travel the world.
However, I have seen some Japanese indiebands playing in the club Debaser here at stockholm, and they were rather good.

But yeah, I'd pay overprice for a concert. Mostly because 90% of the japanese artists don't do overseas concerts. Well, not aboard from Asia at least. I *do* know that L'arc en Ciel played a concert at some convetion in the states, and that AKFG are going to release their hit album "Sol-fa" in the states.

Hello!Project bands, the likes of Morning Musume & Viyuden performed outside Japan;Momusu went to Hongkong this summer, and Viyuden performed in Singapore.

Most "popular" one that's roaming the states is Utada Hikaru, with her all-english album " Exodus ". (Trivia: She was raised in New York). And well, she's been huge in Japan for years, but in the states, she's not doing that well. It's probably because of her sudden change of genre while entering the US market.

Bottom line: Yes, I will pay overprice to see a jpop-artist perform. It's very rare that they do that.

    4. Fare charge? Is there anything like that in the world of concerts?

    :D WOW!!! ^^)

Sounds like you are a total J Music luver  and that is so awesome. I can't say that I know even half of those, but I'm learning. *so much to hear, so little time... sigh* I have heard that AKFG are cool to see... *think it was a guy from Japan that came to Yaoi Con 04* and I listened to a song or two thought wow!! like the feel of the music. I am slowly learning Japanese so I get really frustrated sometimes when I want to know the lyrics to a really cool song. I have a couple of cosplay friends that email me the words sometimes *mostly after I have vented my frustration about not being able to find them* and that has only helped me to fall in love even more **P. Luv Orange Range and would over pay to see them!!!

Seeing that you are not in the USA, I can so understand why Europe would be better ^^)... closer and cheeper. I think going to a concert in Europe would be screamin all the way around ^^)!!! One day though... I will make it over there too *... jots down on list of places to go....Stockholm... ah... that will work for a trip through the Scandinavian countries*

I too have wondered if there is such a thing as a "Fair Charge," but if a concert, or even a convention, has enough morsels to intice me then I am always willing to pay a bit more. I know that there are a few cons that I am really looking forward to attending in the future, but right now I have some things to work on (like getting my gallery done *LOL) and I can't do it all right away.

As I go to each con I have picked up so much info from all sorts of places and the best one for me is the con goers. The music they listen to, the anime they watch, the games they luv, etc. Seeing Nami Tamaki and Blood at Fanime 04 was pretty awesome. There were other bands too, but J music seems to be a different concert performance than the regular bands out there. PLC at AOD had most of the convention goers satisfied. I thought they were good (I didn't stay for the whole thing either night because I was taking pics) but I didn't hear any complaints from the cosplayers about them. Some of the PLC costumes were so well done that the cosplayers did ^^), I was impressed.

BTW... I love your pic for your sig. Did you do that? Any way Thanks for posting (and putting all the bands in alphabetical order *giggle) I think I will use your list in my first post. Are they all JPop though? I know that some JRock bands do a song or two that seems more JPop, but I just classified them as JRock (I haven't heard of all of them and sometimes I list a band as JPunk and JMetal because that is the sound of the majority of the songs I've heard or that was what I was told they were.) Let me know if any should be moved to the JRock thread (if I don't have them there) and I will update that one also.

    Thanks again.

Some are Jrock and some are Jpop. Some are chinese pop and some are korean ones. The main reason is because asia is in my roots (Chinese), which have made me "convert" to 90% pure Asian music.

Feel free to PM if you have questions, I even have had some radio shows on our local radio station with two of my friends, airing J-Pop.

And yes, the signature is made by me. Neko girls are the **** <3

I was pissed off when I went to Japan because there was a Pillows concert the day we left 2 districts away! And it was an open floor show! >=[

For me, the only real Jrock I listen to nowadays is the pillows and Porno Graffitti.
