Damn, that's hard. From the old school, gen. 1, I'd go with Sunstreaker. Well, cuz, he's...y'know, a Lamborghini.

In gen. 2, I'd say Skyfire, but he doesn't make so much of an appearance. Grimlock would be my man, if you're talking about the comic version of gen. 2. FYI, Skyfire's toy was actually made form the same mold as the Macross Valkyrie fighters. So, it's a TF toy that was uber poseable.

In RID, or Car Robots, I'd go with Mach Alert...cuz he's..a Lamborghini. Hehe, see a theme? Actually, make that Super Mach Alert, I didn't like the original's colors too much...because it got him to be called Prowl.

I think the best Transformers would have to be Blurr, Starscream, Soundwave, Kup, Dinobots and Optimus Prime

The way VM is saying it, generation 1 would be everything before the movie. As in, Prowl, Bumblebee, Grimlock, Optimus, Omega Supreme, Starscream, Thundercracker, the Insecticons, etc.

Gen. 2 would mean every new TF after or introduced during the movie. I.e. Galvatron, Hot Rod, Springer, Arcee, the Unicrons, the Junkicons, Wheely, etc.

I don't think he's including the headmasters, the cel animated beast wars, car robots, and such though.

    Without a doubt, Wheeljack.

And they killed him off in the movie. They didn't even give him a decent send off either.
I didn't really like the series after the movie.

    It kinda lost it's edge.

I loved the movie, but I didn't like the way they killed off the first generation characters like that.

WheelJack was very cool, and think of the great things he could have created in the second generation of the show.

The movie was a way to introduce the kiddies to the new wave of heroes/villians that would appear in the show.

HotRods time was definitely the birth of the second gen of Transformers.

Headmaster and Target Masters were offspring of Gen 2.

Don't ask me where they were going with the whole Beast Wars thing. Not a big fan of that series.

RID and Armada are playing alternate realities. Also not a big fan of those mutations of Transformers.

Is it actually Soundwave you prefer, or all the cool cassettes he can eject during a fight.

Soundwave has always been Megatrons most loyal soldier.
Even when Megatron was beaten, Soundwave was at his side.
Until Starstream threw him out of Astrotrain.....
