Recreation Why do people care?

Since I've been in high school I haven't really been subjected to being made fun of because the way I dress or think because people don't care since I have a good personality.

but I'm surrounded with all these preps and people who care so much about what people wear and do. I just can't stand it.

so here is my question to all of you-

why do they care so much?

And how can people live making fun of others or thinking that they are better than others? I CAN'T STAND IT.

but the thing that pisses me of the most are the people who TRY and be things that they just aren't, you know the ones who can't accept themselves. for example when people try to be preps and live to be popular.

I just hate it.

 

It's simple human insecurity. Everyone wants to feel welcome and accepted. Psychologically this probably dates back to mans hunter/gatherer days, as being expelled from the tribe meant certain death.

As for making fun of others, thats an attempt to make one feel as if they are at the head of the "tribe" and in control. People get nervous that other people will become more valued and loved than them, and in response to that fear decide that to devalue that person is the best course of action.

 

Well i think they care because the TV and all the society in general tell them that if they don´t dress "cool" they´re nobody.

Being in fashion is an equivalent to be accepted in society - and today´s children need acceptance so much... mainly because they´re rejected in their own families.

 

Yeah I was made fun of during my school years. Peopel want to belong we have been brain washed for so long by society telling us a ceritian way to act or dress that some think it's true. I learned that it dosen't matter waht peopel think or say about as long as you love the skin you're in that all that matters. But T.V mags and all tis other garbage have us foled into thinkgin the fame, foturne and beauty make us better than others . WELL IT DOSEN'T. We are all the same we all bleed feel pain and emotions. Peopel today are sad so many of them only care for fame foutrne an beauty they forget that we are al the same no matter how we look or how rich or poor we are. It sad that society has come down to nothing more than a sorry race to see hoe much better than you I can become. It's sad really when all you care about is yourself so sad.

 

The Fact is .. those with money want to show off.. they want the world to see them and say. man he/she has it good.. i wish i could own stuff like that.... So anyway when these ppl have friends that can get the same things.. it then becomes a compatition to see who can outdo the other..

Around here.. its not to much about clothing but about who has the newest truck with all the bells and whistles.. why because these gays can afford new trucks like nothing..

its human nature thats all there is to it.. its not media or anything like that.. Just human nature to be greedy and outdo others...

Like if any of you guys watch a little MTV. People get alot off of it.But I think that people can't help but be themselves. I personally don't care about what people wear.That's there style and they are being who they want to be. ITS JUST CLOTHING!!
I do admitt though I LOOOOVE shopping. But I do it for me but not to impress anybody. I think that what ever kind of clothing you do wear, it should be confortable and *YOU*.

The last good thing I got out of MTV was a good laugh at how just plain stupid it is. ^^ But I guess that's just me. Personally, it all revolves around cliques. Certain cliques have certain prerequisites(sp), jocks make fun of nerds, populars rank out the punks and loners, etc. That's the way it works in my school at least. Me? I stay off in my own little corner and tell everyone to burn in Hell. ^^

 

I'm 14 and just started going. I mean not everyone is like that, but still there are some ppl. I was supprised that one of my friends fell into that. He however can pull himself out of it anytime.

I don't see anything wrong w/wearing nice clothes. because wwll I do fall in that catagory.

as for MTV I watch it all for the music because to me music is a part of life. I dont think I could go on w/o it.

 

MTV shows music now? Woah, I thought it was just stupid reality shows like Real World and Road Rules, and a bunch of pretty celebrity faces looking for publicity. ^_^

 

Well, thats still the original MTV, but this new one shows some music...

Anyways, as for the topic, Most people feel the need to ridicule others for a few reasons. One, obviously, is to fit in. This is the most pronounced reason. Another is the fact that they are doing it to hide their own shortcomings. By turning the eye of scrutiny upon another, they are overlooked. Thirdly is the possibility that they may just be an @$$ licking pr*ck. One just never knows when dealing with preps and jocks....(No offense, all of you here are great...)

 

I just like the idea that people like to be ***holes some times, too. ^_^ Maybe there really isn't some deep, psychological, hidden, emotional purpose to ridicule. Maybe people just get a kick out of it, like some strange kind of sadism, maybe all the guidance counselors are just lying to us. Don't mind me, it's late or... something... yeah.

I would have to say it is a combo of all the above replies. Though the most important trueth is that it does not matter what others think or do. It is only our own actions that we controle and in that we must live and die by. If we were to do other then that we would most asuredly stop growing as people and become meer puppets of one another. Be yourself or be nothing, but don't be a puppet!

 

I thought even though I am in college with adults.....they wouldnt care but obviously I assumed too much! I thought they would be old enough to not be so consumed with how people dress. I told this guy the other day...if you dont like my socks(soccer socks i luv them) go buy me some if your that bothered. of course he had nothing to say. I told him that is what I that. They need to grow up. Society always have to label people.
