Im staying in Melbourne at the moment, which is the Australian hot spot for all things sweet and Japanese. I figured i'd have a lot to talk about so i've started this self indulgent thread. Aside from the arcades here (see video games) the asian supermarkets are huge, whether you want ramune candy, canned juice or a zillion different types of pocky or its savoury cousin pretz (yeah like that guy from final fantasy) its all here.

Tragically both actual ramune (what i want) and plain Japanese potato chips (what Vash wants) seem to be scarse.

In recent days ive been living off onigiri, instant rice (84% msg but nice) pancakes, and strange asian pineapple biscuits as well as assorted juices. It rules. My kinda city.

Im in melbourne as the agent for a couple og budding comedians and even as unknowns from interstate they're doing fine, having already made $82.50 profit with much more expected tonight, while selling tickets i wear my suit everything black with a red tie, one of my friends from Melbourne tells me i look like a pimp, which doesn't bother me because Azrael my second favourite character from Dogma gets told the same thing.

I have still not located any azumanga daioh on dvd, i have found fruit basket, inu yasha and hellsing but we already have alla that.
Knives may be horrorfied to know that you can ,however get both Agent Aika and Salary Man on DVD.

So i have drunk booze in public, run over a car bonnet and been involved in 2 sessions of covert cheese-it-when-someone-approaches advertising for the show. Bringing my illegal activity count to 4 in less than 3 days. Life is good.

Gah! No Calbee plain? That's what happens when Daimaru leaves town I guess.

Do I have this right, that your covert advertising involved you lying on the ground while a chalk outline was drawn around you? How many times have you been murdered in Melbourne now?

If the show stays this successful you might even get paid!

Any sign of Full Metal Panic on DVD/VCD?

Hot diggidy damn! Its hard to find an internet cafe that isn't closed down or ready to erase your work in this town. Stuff has happened. Good stuff.

Vash, in response to your question, I was murdered 4 times that night. Ive been enjoying both the high an dlow life still. Sushi one moment, stale crackers the next. I have moved out of the hostel and into the house of my 2 Melbourne friends, which is also occupied by both Kuronekko and the cat from azumanga daioh (the grey one not chiyos father). Usagi Tsukino would love it here.

I have found furuba and riui merchendise, which is cool but im looking for Full Metal Panic and Azumanga Daioh Merchendise. But hey.

I managed to track down what must be the last Timezone in Australia, and was able to finally trade in the 400 or so tickets that I've been dragging around for years for the most delightful collection of shite.
The library here is SO bizzare its got newspapers from all around the world dating back to the late 1800's on microfilm and they've got special microfilm readers for customers to use.

Legato, i found a store that sells shiney red maid outfits, is that close enough?

Melbourne has a much higher bishojo population than Adelaide and Kogal fashion seems to be popular. I love it here.

On a less favourable note, Melbourne is full of old punks. All the leather, all the studs, all the cod pieces, all the 8 billiard ball high mohawks, and not one of them would have been less than 50 pounds overweight. It was like being at a Decartes look-alike contest.

Keep on reading, if you can even see this thread for all the stickys!

    Till next time,
    -Urufudo

Woooo ha! Last nights show made 206 bucks!!!!!!
I felt so good i had me some beam! ($2.20 for a brimming shot) not enough to get me drunk, obviouslly but i felt like celebrating (and I was dressed like that Booze-hound Midvalley at the time)

Speaking of celebrating, i have had THE nicest gelati ever while staying here (toblerone flavour, its brilliant) as well as these things called dipp'n dots which are tiny snap-frozen balls of ice cream that you eat with a spoon. They say its the ice cream of the future (anyone else thinking of "The Pillows"?), it'll never replace ice cream but it's good in its own right.

For now, im on a precious day off, and the weather is perfect. Time to hit Chinatown methinks.

In case anyone is concerned that im turning into a fat bastarde while im here, shimpai suru na date Im walking 2 hours a day and am actually losing weight.

    hey

    i live im melborne/ austrlia.
it is a shithole. might be a nice place 4 a holiday, but if u live here, well, its not all good. it is a crappy place to have a car, cause melbourn has one of the highest rates of car theft in the world. And there arnt many tourist attractions. but i guess its a better place to live than afganistan or one of those countries i guess.

    aisu?

So Wolfwood. About this icecream. When you say snap-frozen, is it frozen really cold, like as if it's been in dry ice? If so it may just be the perfect icecream for me! Don't forget where you got it from, I'll be there in a couple of days!

It's going to be hard to fit things in. Usagi wants to go to Chapel Street. I want to go to Chinatown and Chadstone (okonomiyaki, mocha glace, cinnamon scrolls, aw yeah) and maybe that anime place in Box Hill if we can find it again. Luckily I no longer have to fit a haircut into the equation because I got impatient and I've done that already.

If you're still hunting down manga and anime (does anyone sell proper manga over there?) I'm now keen to get Yami no Matsuei stuff as well.

Have you found just the one bar that will serve you or is every bar in Melbourne willing to buy that you are over 18?!

It is snap frozen indeed. I think most bars here would serve me, when me and PAnda got a drink at various cafes he would order a newkie brown and i'd order a lemon coke.

They always addressed me and gave me the booze. Hah.

Anyone who says Melbourne is dangerous shithole with not ehough tourist attractions, hasn't been to Adelaide, everyone I know who live there likes it.

There are some good dvd stores in Chinatown, so that may make it easier.

Oh! and i found a place that sells American food, and have finally bought myself the worlds safest chocolate bar.
And some Junior Mints for Ryan.

Lately ive been enjoying walking, playing cs, and eating from one end of Melbourne to the other. Sometimes my own cooking.

You're more concerned about Aika than the Maid outfit being mentioned?

I was only writing about the part that was sort of directed at me.

I chose to ignore that little comment about the maid outfit!

Aw no, I can see the horrible scenario playing out in my mind...

Clean-living Adelaide boy goes to the evil big city. Mysteriously becomes booze magnet. Before he knows it he's not even paying for it any more. Complete strangers approach him on the street trying to get him drunk. The amount of readily available but horribly overpriced anime drives him even further off the rails and ultimately....

Thrown in the slammer for being in possession of an unregistered Nutrageous.

I'm afraid that the maid outfit would have to be pink for Usa-ko to wear it (Bah! Readers) but thanks for looking. When B+M go to america, they asked if we wanted anything, and I said that you would be after a nutrageous. was this the right thing to do?
Ryan looks forward to your return, as he has unlocked everyone in Tekken 4, (yes Brian still has "that" move and now has 300% more of "that" laugh) you're gonna love playing it.
Miss ya Wolfwood, look forward to coming over.

Damn nice to here from you bro.
I have already tried a nutrageous now, (one for you too) and they are so nice, if i get another thats fine, does Usa-ko like bounty bars? I forget.

I have tried all flavours of onigiri now and i reckon salmon is the best (dude, do NOT eat pickle onigiri) with terriyaki chicken being close second.

Ive been sampling the okonomiyaki and gyoza here (readily accessible) and they actually use something like barely enough garlic in the gyoza here. Its a blessing.
I finally tried some bubble tea as well, it was just a white chocolate slushy with delicious balls of jelly in it that occasionally race up the straw at mach 3. Bizzarre, but tasty.

I went to the Melbourne museum AND saw an IMAX film for 15 dollars. The museum is fackin' HUGE! Its got a rain forest in it!
The museum had the usual interactive science explanations and stuffed animals (including Phar Lap!!!)

But it has some really cool exhibits too. Like a section on schools complete with boxed lunches and scrawled tables behind glass, with play equiptment suspended above and a constant recording of kids singing. Most engenius of all, the exhibits smells like primary school. JUST like primary school.
Theres also a neighbours exhibit complete with a set from the show and Kylies wedding cake.

I could, in truth have stayed in the museum forever because they had in one of there exhibits on the body, abutton that when pressed made a selection of 10 extremely accurate farty sounds (much like the one from the simpsons) it was tough to pull myself away.

The museum also a section on diseases and vaccines featuring photos of the worst cases of shingles, a video loop of a baby with whooping cough and an old fashioned iron lung (which is made of wood) wheezing in the background. I didn't spend long there.

Ryan must never go there. There is a suprising number of manniguins and photogrphs of naked old peoplel. Im not sure why.

    See you soon.
