Just wondering. I mean pronounciation, a small vocabulary, and hiragana and/or katakana. I have a decent grasp of the characters, being Chinese and all.

Yeah. Easily. Even just a line or two of hiragana a day and you'll get the Hiragana and katakana down in no time.

As for vocab, well, yeah, that too.

I dont think that there's many programs out there. >> I might be wrong though.

As for learning it in 2-3 months, YES, but it depends on your persistance and discipline. As for being chinese, yes it helps alot for kanji and stuff, but in the end you'll still see alot of differences which make japanese such a hard language to learn.

I'd suggest you get a text book or just hiragana and katakana charts and start off learning those. As for basic vocab, you can find vocab lists anywhere on the net.

I hate to advertise, especially since we're still renewing everything, buy you can try www.noated.net/forum 's japanese learning section. Or try www.apricotweb.com

    ^^ good luck!

I think it is possible to learn the Hirigana & the Katakana in 1-2 months. I learned the Hirigana in 2 month, 2 hours per week, so if you study everyday, you can do that in less than 2 months,

I good way to learn quickly is to find someone who already learned it. My brother learned it in college, then about 1-2 years later I started taking it in high school. However, he gave me a lil headstart the summer beforehand, and it was pretty easy... basically he let me use the textbook he was using (and in the first lesson you learn basic sentence structures, etc.). As for writing, he showed me the stroke orders for each character, about 5 different characters a day. (so I learned it pretty fast) However, there are several which look kinda similar to each other... those ones, you should study a lil more. Finally, for proper pronunciation, you really need to listen to someone with as close to the proper accent as possible (watching hundreds of hours of anime should help a lil bit).
