World of WarCraft, online RPG, one of the best apparently. It's based on the classical series of WarCraft games. Many game magz and sites give it the "best rpg game" of the year and stuff like that.

It's a monthly payment with the game.

u don't know World of Warcraft....it's one of the famouse Rpg online games =D, it's cool and awesome.

it's go like this...there are diffrent races and classes, u chosse a race and class and (alliance or Horde) something like that, then u play like any rpg game...lvling up by quests till lvl 60. Anyway there are all dungeons and bosses. and the best thing in the game is when the allience fight against Horde, and u can get in a RAID group which can carry more than 5ppl, maybe about more than 20 or 30ppl, so u go to the alliance or horde territory (depends if u r alliance u go fight the horde, and if u r horde u fight the alliance) then u start fighting and killing =D

SRy for spelling mistakes and GRAMMER xD
just telling u the game in small summary, go to www.worldofwarcraft for more info >_<

I was considering getting this but I'm not a fan of the monthly payment. I don't play as much games as I used to so I don't think getting this game is worthwhile. Guild wars seems to be the better option as there is no monthly fee. Will consider getting that in the summer.

I'd prefer Dark age of Camelot rather than World of Warcraft really. The game is impressive but once you get going, it seems rather easy to play. Any skills? Nah, not much if you compare to the skills of Dark Age of Camelot.

Then again, DAoC has more classes, spells, magic and races. DAoC for the win!

I do. I have a level 60 rogue on Windrunner.

I can't refute Teddz on his DAoC comparison, but he is the first of the DAoC players I know to side with it over WoW. I will admit I am rather new to the MMORPG scene, as the only prior experience I had with one was FFXI. However, from the reviews and experience I have had with World of Warcraft, it is the pwnage of the scene.

Blizzard has quite a track record of being meticulous with their game releases. WoW is no exception. They did their research and picked out everything good and bad with MMORPGs that existed before, and the result is dazzling.

The engine constantly works from the get-go in the background, loading resources as predicted and needed, meaning there is very little load time after booting for the first time. There are some magnificent visuals. Quests are visible and are actually rewarding.

Mileage will vary. Obviosuly, a warrior could end up using a narrow set of skills for most of his lifetime, while a mage could have a huge arsenal of choices at his fingertips. Talents can make for all sorts of unique strengths and weaknesses.

Of course, Guild Wars is a cash-conscious alternative, although it really doesn't come close to the polished might of WoW. I've been playing Guild Wars with a small group of boards.jp members under That guy!'s lead, and it is fun - although it is not a true MMORPG.

Around my MMORPG mates, probably 80% have gone back to DAoC. Some went back because of the Catacombs expansion, some went back for the love of DAoC, and some went back because they got...well..."bored" with World of WarCraft.

Here's my question: Why would someone play WOW and pay a monthly fee when they can play Guild Wars for free? It seems like Guild Wars is more impressive visually and the AI seems quite potent.

been playing since launch and i likes much more the swg and 11. i have guildwars for when i want that more pso experience. i'm not in it for pvp or the end game stuff. i'm in it to take my time, not have pressure put on me by the players around me, or have to save insanely if i want to buy ANYTHING. i also like the art style. which you really can't use as a comparison for the games, as say guildwars is done in a realistic style and wow is cartooned. it's like comparing the graphics of say, M.A.S.H. to G.I. Joe. it's just not an even comparison.
i'm a casual player and like to kind of, slack, in these kinds of games. i mean, where's the fun if you just charge through it? i've been doing almost every quest i can. and have started doing more instance runs for items and moneys. (i'm questing for 7 o_O) what's the first skill i maxed at 300? fishing. mwahahaha! I am dita the exploror. at 45ish i was in Silithus and am not looking forward to returning (i HATE HATE HATE bugs and spiders...which are in abundance)

we do have an open recruiting policy, butt haven't recruited anyone outside our group due to the 1 rule in place. no a$$hats. you know, jerks, utter morons, people of great general annoyance, ninja looters, that kind of thing.

    we have fun. *^-^*

I played WOW for a bit when I was visiting my cousin in Toronto. I didn't get very far, but I'd say it was a pretty nice game. I'd consider playing it again, if I wasn't really lazy or broke. I was playing a night elf named... guess what? Shinryu :p

    Apples to Oranges, Trigun Son.

    Guild Wars is not WoW.

Despite how many are fooled, Guild Wars is not a MMORPG. It sort of fakes it with the town hubs, but with everything else instanced it does not stay true to the concept.

I have both, and I lasted maybe a week in Guild Wars before I got bored. It's far smaller with much more limited content. The enemies are very limited in type, the item selection is unbearably weak, and there is not all that far you can go with skills to really set your character apart from another of your class. I also hate the fact that to get through nearly any area you have to spend time grinding down foes, even if they are beneath your notice.

I would say WoW is far superior visually. It may have less realism in its styling, but there are some very impressive sights to be seen (walk across the great chains surrounding inner Blackrock mountain, for instance).

As far as AI goes, neither game is particularly strong in that respect. They seem to follow the standard aggression form, where the monster goes after the first person within range and from that point on, whoever makes them angriest be it by causing damage or provoking them with skills.

In the end, there is just far more to do in Azeroth than there is in Ascalon. Going with Guild Wars is like settling for a family pack of wheaties, when you can get a new box of frosted wheats every month. It's definately more cost effective to get the wheaties, and you essentially get the same breakfast, but you miss out on that extra flavour. And you'll likely get sick of the wheaties before you would the frosted variety.

Guild Wars is an awesome alternative for those who want the illusion of a MMORPG without the cost, but it is not a substitute for the real thing. If you're looking for a good online RPG option with a one-time cost, I alternatively recommend the Neverwinter Nights Platinum Pack over Guild Wars - there are hundreds of free running servers and downloadable games for it, and it has a very large and strong community.

I did play WoW up to a month a go. I just ended my subscription on the 7th for some reason I stopped playing. I figured there was no point in continuing. I was a Level 38 Warloc on E something. Named Helmany. I had a guild called Hunter of the Night. ^_^ Can you guess what anime that is from?
