    Basically, it's a form of server-side scripting, similar to the idea of ASP or other scripts...

    Unlike client-side scripting (Javascript), server-side script runs on the server (where the page comes from), only arriving to your browser after it has completely been rendered into simple HTML. Meaning the developer doesn't have to worry what your system is configured like - the server will always create it the right way.
