I know there is a thread for you frist anime. (I'm not asking that.)
I want to know what anime got you hook into the whole anime sceen.
If it has you first anime, then you are lucky! :)
Though it's not always the case.
My is Sailor Moon, I has really hooked. There also was a time I also stop likeing anime, and can't find one I thought has really interesting.
Then one fateful day, I found Gravitation, and it save me form anime boredom.

Can't really remember when I got really hooked on anime considering that it was around me when I was a little chap. Could say that I've grown up with anime but Knights of the old Zodiac, Doraemon, Battle of the planets, Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z were all around during that time.

Hmm, this will require some thinking.
I think the anime that really got me hooked on anime was both Evangelion and Martian Successor Nadesico. That was when the Sci-Fi channel was playing them every Saturday and Sunday morning.
I had a little inerest in anime before them, i had seen some animes like Akira, but these were the one's that got me started on the road that i'm now on.

I'll have to say that Sailor Moon was probably the first anime I ever saw. Cant say it was my Bridge though, I really didn't know it was anime, nor know what anime was. After that miscellaneous ones, like Pokemon or speedracer.

But one that did start a chain of anime events would be Inuyasha.

    Voltron for me.

It wasn't the first anime i saw (when I was a kid they used to air Heidi :p ). But i think it's the one that got me interested into whatever-kind-of-cartoons it was.

I learned about Anime when we were invited to see "anime = japanese cartoon " shows at a friend's house. The ones we watched were Akira (the movie) - and Bubblegum crisis. I already knew more about anime because where I live they aired Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac). The spaniard-accent of the intro song was hilarious, but the story got me hooked. Later it degenerated into superpower fights. But I knew that Akira was an outstanding show. (Later I knew about Sailor moon girly stuff BLAH)

However, I became an uber-fan of Anime when I watched Saber Marionette. It opened a whole new world of emotions to me :)

So which anime influenced me more? SMJ I'd say. Which one got me interested in anime per-se? I think Akira. Those light shows and effects astounded me, altho i didn't like the gory stuff (Kaneda HELP MEEEE) and such. Oh, the music. Yeah . It rocked.

It was 92-94, by that time the internet was in diapers, so downloading movies was completely out of the question.

But I was always a nerd. Anime, Roleplaying (D&D and stuff) and computers was something I always participated into. I used to belong to a computer club, and we had similar interests.

So in the end, I'd say Akira was the one that got me REALLY interested into Anime.

Three guesses, and the first two don't count. What's that? You're guessing Saber Marionette J? Well, you're right, but the first guess didn't count, remember?:p

The first anime that I ever saw was Dragon Ball Z caz my brother used to love that show.
After that, I got more interested and discovered manga and anime.
    That's pretty much it.

I have my first real 'gateway' moment forever preserved on a shirt that I miraculously stumbled upon in the Gamers store in Akihabara - Evangelion, the look on Asuka's face after she wakes up and proceeds to wreak much havoc on Seele's SSDF pawns. Good stuff.

And every once in a while it almost takes a new 'gateway' to keep me going. Shows like Cardcaptor Sakura, Princess Nine, and RahXephon have all served that important role of reviving my interest in anime.

Sailor Moon was what had got me hooked on it and that was when I was a just a little girl. I really don't know what it was that made me seek after anime though because back then I just thought of it as another cartoon.

Hey Strongest, what anime is that? Kinda reminds me of this one ca. 1972 anime, I think it was called "Heidi" or something Swiss like that (the kid in that pic doesn't look like the main character of that one, though, but it looks like a similar style) I was watching some show one day when I was in Japan last year that talked about the 'top ten anime of all time' or something like that (though I didn't catch their criteria). I was surprised that they only rated Lupin III #2, because I'd never heard of this "Heidi" or whatever it was before.

This anime called Heidi is also a GREAT anime, that spreaded worldwide the japanese animation, and I believe it was one of the first ones we got to see here in México, I remember it very well and it was extremely cool, still Remi was the GREATEST!
Remi is one of the most touching classic animes in history, and it is about the adventures of a little kid who lost his parents when he was born and who was adopted by the old man you see in the picture called Mister Vitalis, this character looks alike to the grandfather of Heidi "the girl from the mountains" and that's why you confused it, still the Remi anime was done by the masters Osamu Dezaki and Akio Sugino, both worked in many diferent projects and their work toghether it is one of the most influential in all general anime world wide.

And here is a link to a mexican site dedicated to Remi:

And this is another one in french:

That sounds pretty interesting. I'll have to go look for these anime, Remi and Heidi and some of the others mentioned on that site. Thanks, Strongest!
