Hey everyone, I was just wondering if any of yous have heard of Yukiru Sugisaki! She is the amazing creator of DN Angel, Brain Powered (artist of it), The candidate for goddess and her newest one is called electric lagoon or something like that.

I have currently DN Angel and The Candidate for Goddess volume 1 and it's gonna take until next month to bring out volume 2. Anyway, she is an amazing artist!! All I could do was gawk at her amazing artwork! It's totally amazing!! I had to read it the second and third time to figure out the story cuz I kept getting sidetracked with the amazing art. Has anyone read any of her creations? She also came out with a escaflowne doujinshii and I wanna get it but I dunno where and she has an artbook but sadly I have no money.

Brain Powered is all out so I might go check that out!! Heehee I think Yukiru is becoming my 2nd favorite artist or maybe even number 1! It's close with Takaya Natsuki and CLAMP!! Oh so many artists so many manga so little money...sigh

    Heehee :D

I've read the first seven volumes of D.N. Angel, and I've at least looked through Candidate for Goddess and Lagoon Engine. Oh, and Rizel Mine, which is a fairly weird series...don't know exactly what I think of it, but I haven't seen much.

Yukiru Sugisaki is indeed a very talented mangaka. Her artwork is beautiful, and she's got an amazing knack for composition. I really like her dramatic closeups (there are a lot of them; nearly one on every two page spread in a volume). She is also a wonderful storyteller.

I'm currently collecting D.N. Angel as it is released in English, and I want to get the Japanese volumes as well (yes, I know...it's weird). I'm glad that Tokyopop is doing such a good job with the series.

I heard TP did a horrod job on the English release, making it so everyone calls everyone else by the given names (Daisuke calls Satoshi "Satoshi" instead of "Hiwatari-kun" as he does in the original Japanese).

But that aside, I love D.N.Angel. I'll admit I didn't like it too much in the beginning, but it gets very good around volume 7 or so. Cute, sweet, and even a bit heartbreaking. I eagerly await volume 11 and the latest Asuka installments. >^^<

Well...I can vouch for the translations Tokyopop is using. They're accurate. If the rewriters decided to have a field day with the text....yeah. *sigh* They didn't do as well as they could have, but compared to some of the releases I've seen (Hana-Kimi from Viz, for example), Tokyopop is doing good with D.N. Angel.

It may have been that the editor decided against using the honorifics, and to avoid confusion had the rewriter just work it out so that everyone called everyone else by their first names. It's frustrating, but about all we can do in that case it write to the company and tell them that they screwed up, ne?

Hey just be happy that they're translating it! TP is actually very good although sometimes they screw up. They put the words in the wrong speech bubble. You know, they put a thought in a speech bubble and their talking as a thought. I get annoyed by that. And yes I really wish they kept with the honorifics but we can't have everything can we? It's still pretty good though. Oh and another thing I don't like, is how you can see where they had to erase the japanese and up in the english and thus distorting the picture, that gets annoying but o well they are the best so far! :catgirl:

Oh don't worry about it! I have Fruits Basket in Japanese and my sister is collecting the english version. I really have to work on my Japanese so I though I'd read the Japanese version then compare it to the English. I dunno but hey o well!! :anime:

Yukiru Sugisaki is AMAZING. I worship her as much as Toshiro Ono and Tanemura Arina. *drools*

I've read the whole manga series of DNAngel.

In fact, I've got it all on my computer!

In fact, I could even give it to all of you!

But that's a no-no! Go support out wonderful Miss Sugisaki! I buy her artbooks. xD (Well, I DID, until I went broke!)

As far as Tokyopop, I'm glad they're translating... but they did a terrible job on the actual word translation of Rurouni Kenshin and a few others. They're licensing more than they can publish, just madly licensing anything and everything they can. This sucks for people like me, who love to do scanlations. *sigh* Looks like if I want to continue my hobby, I'll have to join an official translation team!

    P.S. I luff Furuba xD (That's Fruits Basket ^_~)

where is the anime? I haven't seen anything for that yet.

Yeah I'm actually getting 2 of Tanemura Arina's works! Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and ION!! Ah I so do love her artwork!! heheheheehe!!

Back to D.N. Angel, the 3rd volume comes out in august or september but the 2nd on is already out. What I hate about English versions is how amazingly long it take them to release next volume out. and it seems TP is licensing a lot. I just hope they slow down and not get sloppy in their work!!

Believe me, they DID a horrid job with the English release. They even took one of DN's jokes in volume 2 out. It really ticked me off. I have the Japanese manga and translations, so I compared the two, and yeah, I was not happy. The English version is still find and dandy, but you might be let down by the english version if you read the Japanese version prior X_X

Yeah, I really wish they wouldn't change anything from the original context but I also have add that they still did a really good job. What kind of joke was it anyway? Anthing of significance or was it something in small writing like off the side? I still love D.N. Angel though. Even if the translation isn't perfect sometimes you just have to take what you can get. I think TP did a pretty good job. But that's just my two cents.

I haven't lost the plot or meaning of story so they're doing something right.

well, basically it was the whole reason Daisuke transformed into Dark. It was in the 2nd manga, first chapter, when they went to the mountains. I guess it's not really a joke, but I found it amusing.

    here is neutral's version:
    p20
    Riku: //You may seem timid...//
    Riku: //But you're not a coward.//
Riku: //Because you're always thinking about a lot of things...//
    Daisuke: Harada-san... we're here.
Daisuke: It's a bit more flatter here...
    Daisuke: Y'know, Harada-sa-
    Riku: Stop calling me 'Harada'!
Riku: If you keep calling me 'Harada,' I don't know if you're
    talking about me or Risa.

    p21
    Daisuke: ... Huh?
Daisuke: //Huh?? I was fine until just now...//
Daisuke: //Why is my heart pounding like this?//
    Riku: Niwa-kun?
    Daisuke: //This feeling... this isn't good!//
    Riku: Niwa-kun! Wait-
    Daisuke: //I'm gonna TRANSFORM!//

    here's tokyo pop's:

Riku: //He looks kind of wimpy but...//
    //...he's not weak.//
//He always thinks about how he can do his best.//
    Daisuke: Riku, we made it.
    Hey, Riku...
    Riku: What already?
And don't look at me that way! I'm not Risa!

    pg break

    Daisuke: huh?
    //What's this? What's going on?//
    Riku: Daisuke?
    Daisuke!! What is it?
    Daisuke: //Oh no!! I can't be...//.
    //I'm....transforming!!!//

I bolded the two lines that make all the difference.
Most people I talked to think I'm overreacting, but it really, really bugs me X_X

heehee I see. Well each person has something that annoys them. Sometimes I wonder why they can't keep to the script. But oh well. I do have to admit that is something rather...little but I guess I can see where you're getting at. It kind of annoys me (a little) how they don't leave the way the characters call each other. (like "Niwa-kun" or "Harada-san") But I guess TP just doesn't want those unfamiliar with Japanese traditions to get lost.

Thanks for posting that up. :) I get the feeling Tokyopop and such companies try to put an american touch to the translations, and in doing that they totally piss off half (or more) of the die hard anime/manga fans. I think they take away from the Japanese by putting in an american touch but I guess that's what we have to take in order to even read manga.

I do have to admit (again) that the translation is still very good. I can't wait for volume 9 and I wonder how long the series is...the longer the better unless tokyopop stops then...well I can't say I'll be happy. :p
