I dunno about any of yous guys, but when Hughes died.. it launched violent attacks on my tear ducts. I have never seen any other anime pull a big deal like that off so beautifully, and with so little said... They nailed it. They didn't pull the Typical Anime Signature Over-appliance of Drama and Crying move, they just did it short, and sweet.. and the impact was twice as hard...

............Anyway! Let me know what you thought! Arigato~

I actually didn't cry when Hughes died. I was upset though, because he was my favorite character. I almost did cry when Nina was turned into a chimera. That was terrible; especially since she was so young.

I didn't cry, I was mor like shocked that they killed him. He was one of the greatest characters, but it had to be done. I just don't like that they didn't do anything special in the end credits.

I think it was better that they didnt, really, because most anime would. I found the way that it all happened to be refreshingly different from the normal routine.
The Nina thing didn't really hit me as hard though, probably because I knew it was coming though.. they spelled it out for you pretty clearly.

Yeah. That, and Nina was only there for 2 Episodes total. It was different with Hughes. You got to know him, his life, his work, personality, everything! Putting someone for so long then killing him isn't cool, but it makes for one hell of a twist.

Oh Gawd yes it does. He went apenuts with the knives too, that was his best moment I think, he was just all around brutal with the blades there.

Yeah, they did well with it, i mean we see a lot of his family and other private life stuff with Hughes, I mean we got to see his KID be born lol..

*By the way, Thank you Saka! (^~^)

Well i wouldn't say exactly that it *had* to be done like er... "you must die, it has to be done!" *bang* *bang* Hughes death just made the baddies look more threatening so the watcher thinks "okies, these guys aren't your everyday bullies" and they aren't obviously. Having them kill off a well-known character sends the message quite clearly.

It was a shocker for me.. I hate it when animes get you interested in a character, have quite a bit of plot development on him or her then kill them off. Reminds me of when Gai died in Nadesico.. poor Gai..

ya I ws pretty upset, but I didn't cry. I don't think at that moment it was that drawn out. I may have become teary eyed or something when the borthers found out. I mean, yes he had a baby and wonderful wife. What I found very touching is how mature his wife had become later on in regards to her husband and the father of her child's no longer being present.

I cried. T.T I didn't cry when he got killed, but I did when they were at the funeral.

The thing that got me was when Alexia said, "Mommy... why are the burrying daddy? He has paper work to do. Mommy!" (or something along those lines.)

-.- Plus Roy was making me sad too... I don't like when Roy is depressed.

I didn't cry but it was really shocking. Anyway, I already knew it from the manga but the part of the burial was really sad. I wish Hughes stayed a lot longer.

I was upset but didn't cry. Hughes was my favorite character, and I hate it when shows/movies kill my favorite character. *pouts*

    A tribute to Hughes

As you know(if you are this far in the series)Meas Hughs was to me a funny, and the best character in FMA, of course he died(WHY:sad: )And when he died he got a double promotion to Brigadier General Hughs.(I wish he didn't know anything and didn't die!!!)

    Well, I kinda agree...

we should've have more funny moments with him. He was an excellent character.

    ON THE OTHER HAND... (muahahaha)

I think we need more animes where a main (or relatively important) character dies. I mean, it's totally unexpected and brings more emotion to the story.

Looking back at this thread, it kinda gives a laugh to the newbie days of FMA.

Seriously though, his death was necessary.

I don't think any of the following classifies as spoilers, since it's aired on [AS] already.

Anyways, when you think about it, his death was necessary, since it was because of him that Mustang started searching deeper and deeper, and he found out about Juliett Douglas, and said it in front of the meeting, thus causing the war and all hell to break loose.

I won't go to that certain rank that he gets on Episode 51, cause it doesn't air till saturday :)p)

I WOULD'VE cried...had my quote on quote "friend" had not spoiled the whole thing for me by telling me EVERY LITTLE DETAIL of his death before I saw it. T_T I cried more when he was tleling me about it then when i actually watched it.
I'm gonna thwack that jerk a dozen times over the head for that. :anger: (and don't get this the wrong way, i didn't ASK to be spoiled, he just went and said it all o_O)
Otherwise I would've bawled like a baby. I cried the last time I watched Kiki's Delivery Service for crying out loud (heehee pun) I would've-and should've- cried for Hughes. T_T
    The tears were about to fall tho at the funeral scene...what with little Elicia, and then even seeing Roy crying.... ;.;

Strange...I didn't catch the Nina thing until the instant it was revealed, but I saw Hughes' death coming. I'm so backwards. :catgirl:
