A month ago I heard of this anime. I heard it was good so when i found the music i downloaded it, liked it, and put it on my list for whenever it was licensed.

then i saw the ending animation on youtube.

And frick i couldn't wait for it to be licensed. * * That sequence was so nice.

I just finished watching the second episode. I felt the first episode was genius. xD I understood what was going on right away. xD lol

I'm defiantely going to continue watching it. =D and i absolutely love how Haruhi looks *hence the need for an avatar of her @@*

Anyone else seen it or are interested? i know furryb has seen it from his posts (which just helped me make my decision to watch it =))

When I first saw the first episode my face probably looked like this. Itwas the most horrific thing I've seen in anime. I was coughing out a lung, half retching, half laughing. The way this anime is run, you wind up going "So that's how it is!" a lot as you stick with it. I'm definately going to read the novel. Not so sure about the manga though. The old one was supposed to suck and the new one only now is beginning to come out. If and when this title get's licensed, pray that crap translators like ADV do not pic it up.

OMG the old manga xD I heard about that on wikipedia. basically the manga-ka was going against the original author and publishers wishes, straying deadly away form the original story...then they foudn out that the manga-ka was making hentai dojin on the side (A Suzumiya one) they quickly canceled it and have denied its existance.
I find that funny actually. XD

Well, once again, i got rigth away that the first episode was just a home movie made by the cast. I foudn it absolutely hilarious because it seemed like a huge parody of magical girl stuff...and kyon's narrating was perfect and the crappy effects...xD
*Mikuru's just taking off her clothes..*
*frame gets cut, goes directly to Mikuru going to bed fulyl clothed*
Kyon: we apoligize for the missing of the Mikuru changing scene. We're sorry if we crushed your hopes. Really. Please don't kill us.

or soemthing liek that, lol. xD

I've now watched up to episode 6. I migth ahve to stop here for a while tho, becuase i won't be online for a weke or so. Still, I'm absolutely in love with Haruhi. i wuv her so much! >3<

The amount it's faithful to the novel is also really impressive. I've skimmed through the translation of the first novel last night and the narration of the anime as well as the "camera work" coincide almost exactly with the novel. I imagine the author and fans of the novels are quite pleased. I know I would be.

I heard they skipped the second novel. =P They also ended the series so they could work on Kanon. O_O

I'd like to see the novels come over here right away...

It's a bit disappointing to see the series end so quickly. There was definately time left to flesh out the other characters more before the ending it. Thankfully the novels do read like the series though there are a few differences here and there. The anime actually improved on some of the scenes though. Here's hoping they decide to make a second series.

    *Bumpetty-bump!*

Now that the full run of the first series has been out a little while, I think this one deserves a look from anyone who may have overlooked it - And don't judge it by the first episode's seemingly terrible production quality (for viewers who dropped it without realizing, it was a high-school home movie production).

The story is one with weird all over it, and while it has you thinking philosophically one moment, the next it has you cracking up at the sheer stupidity behind the next.

Everything is told by Kyon's point of view, the (un)lucky boy who ends sitting in front of the eccentric Haruhi Suzumiya - who's introduction to the class on the first day of school can be summed up by saying she has no interest in normal people, and asks to be approached by aliens, time travelers and espers. When Kyon begins talking to her, he ends up inspiring Haruhi to form her own club which leads into a series of strange happenings.

While the plot can be hard to keep up with at times, it is further compounded by the fact that the series was intentionally aired out-of-sequence. It begins with episode 11 and ends with episode 6. Despite this oddity, even watching it in mish-mash order works out and makes sense in the end (well, in as much sense as the story can make). It also makes things even more unique.

Still, if you're one of the easily lost viewers and would much rather see things in chronological order, here's how to view it. For those keeping score, the correct ordering is the numbering system Haruhi uses during the episode previews, while Kyon's numbering system is the original aired order.

    Chronological Order: 2, 3, 5, 10, 13, 14, 4, 7, 6, 8, 1, 12, 11, 9

    A BakaMattSu recommended anime watch!

Yay! We have Matt on the side of Haruhiism!!! :D Maybe now the other members will see this is prime gold we've got! XD

Anywho, I just watched up to episode 11. I hope to finish the series tomorrow...depending if I can find the rest of the episodes on youtube.

I have to say that after watching episode 10 and 11, Yuki is my favorite character. At first i thought she was an adorable and cooler (in my mind) version of Rei from Evangelion (you cannot deny the resembelance and similar way of speaking) but after those two episodes, I dunno, I feel she's her own character, not just a carbon copy of another. I find her really cute after episode 11. And dude, the fight scene between her and Ryoko was just plain awesome. That was just...wow. I is impressed!

I'd like to cosplay someday as either Haruhi or Yuki in their Day of Saggitarius imaginary outfits from episode 11. :D

Yay for someone reviving the thread! I've been wanting to fill everyone in on it being licensed for a while now.

There was actually a site up where you could hear the auditions for the SOS Brigade and vote on the voice actors for the series, but voting is now over. D:

Yaya, the DVDs will come out in the month of my birthday!!! XDDD

I intend to cosplay as Haruhi for this year's Animethon. If anyone has tips on making school girl costumes, please tell me some. >3<

Doing this partly as an experiment. I've heard from some fellow Haruhiists that when they went as characters, thinking no one would recognize them, they were bombarded with fans who wanted their pictures. So, I'm gonna see if it will happen at a small Canadian con.

Although maybe I should do Mikuru, since my personality when approached by strangers is more like her's...but then I won't be called GOD. D:

A review of Haruhi with some rather annoying failed actors/actresses. (Contains clips from the Engish dub  )

    *SPOILER*
It sounds horrible apart from Yuki who is okay.

I dunno...maybe I'm a little desensitized to english dubs, but I don't think Crispin Freeman is any sort of stretch for a role like Kyon, the Mikuru sounds damn near identical to her japanese counterpart, and Yuki seemed decent from the clips shown.

Of course Haruhi herself seems very off...

Maybe it's just the accents that bug me...
They should use less stereotypical American accents and go for something more subtle. Maine and New Hampshire have a broader appeal outside of America...

Still, being the all nice, all forgiving type that I am I'll give the dub a go.

    Mmm...I thought they were okay. Kyon was all right, Yuki and Mikuru were pretty much on the ball, Itsuki I don't really know what I think yet and Haruhi............I was just imagining that voice right? o_o; I don't like it at all really >.>;;;

(and wtf about their anime countdown....how does Bleach out do three Miyazaki masterpieces?!)

I'll be honest and say I skipped most of the show after hearing the first line of the theme tune.
"No one understands me" Is not a great opener in my books. :)

I think the person who did Tomo in Azumanga would have been a better choice but that's just me.

Some release details from the North American release site talk about Standard and Special Edition DVD releases.

Apparently contractual obligations blocked them into keeping the same episode ordering as the Japan DVDs. That's "Haruhi's" Chronological order, with the slight change of "The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00" being moved to the first episode. This was following their online conducted poll where "Kyon's" TV broadcast order won the votes.

Enter the Special Edition DVDs. "After deeply intense negotiations to try and please the existing fan-base, we are able to release a Special Bonus DVD in the TV Broadcast order as an extra." Starting with DVD2 and running until the last DVD4 there are two release versions. The Special Edition will be double-disc releases, with the second "extra" disc containing the episodes in the original broadcast order.

I find this great that Bandai-Ent went the extra mile to appease fans of the series.

It is somewhat strange that the Special Edition discs only kick in at the second volume, however - I wonder if this was purposefully done to stagger many of the same episodes into each volume or else due to volume one being too late into production for a sweeping change like a double-disc edition? I also wonder how much of a price difference there will be between buying the four standard volumes versus the three special edition releases, since either release would cover the complete series.

Full Details were pulled from ASOS Brigade:

Good, cause I hate watching it in Haruhi's order. Kyon's order is much more fun and kinda made the series what it is.

    so....will there be a box set? D:

I'd assume so but not until the last non-special edition DVD is released.

    In other Haruhi news:

The 9th book is out and about.
Sounds like it will be interesting. I need to start reading the translations again. I'm up to Live Alive right now.
