Aw, come on. We are doing efforts on reviving the channel, and all we get are "some" users that are logging onto the page. I demand more members to join our chat, and make it great again, like the old days...

    For you mIRC users:

    #boards.jp @ quakenet.

I idle there regularly; every once in a while I look in, especially if there's activity of some sort. In other words, if folks were to be there, I'd be there more often. :p

Or, like it's been said, idle aimlessly for many, many minutes. Seriously, whenever I'm there, people don't talk. Most of the time they just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. I thought chatrooms were for talking, not idling for an hour and staring into deep space. :p

Well, if there were more users, it would be more fun to talk.

Apparently, the chatroom's just fallen back to three idlers. Well, two, since I'm on sporadically.

I've been poking my head in periodically but there never seems to be anyone in there to talk to. I guess I'll just keep trying.

It seems like this message board in general has died down a bit compared to how I remember it. I took a two year break (college got nuts) and now that I'm back its like no one is here....weird.

Got real busy with a lot of off topic posting and folks crying about one thing or another. Then one day I logged on and it was all quiet. I actually don't mind it like this. I've said it before but I actually feel a little closer to those who post now than I did back when it was really busy. It's a little more personal imo.

Hardly, think of it as being elite.

    Or something like that.

    Ok, dying breed.

elite anime fans are what killed anime. you can't tell me the elite ones you actually meet aren't some of the most annoying people on earth. fans that are open to the fact that not all anime is good are the sane ones. =p

i think it comes down to anime loosing popularity due to crap being released, the said crap being too high priced, and the anime companies being gouged by the japanese companies selling the licenses and ungodly high prices. everything was getting priced like it was gold and going to sell well, despite it being crap even in japan. so, lack of shows = lack of fans.

and the chat room was never lively. the eirtaku one was, but not ours =p

the boards, got kinda huge, and people get lost. and when you're lost, you either stick to where your comfy, or you try and leave.

Very true. It also doesn't help that US companies are fighting over the self-same crap titles. It's terrible.

Anyone could simply just press the AIM button underneath my rep bars to chat with me. LOL. Well, if I'm available...which I'm usually not. Or, simply, message izzyscell for my cellphone. :D

I couldn't agree more. I swung through the bookstore looking around for some manga to pick up and I must say, most of it looked awful. Perhaps there was some new great stuff out there but its hard to see through the bog sometimes. And I dunno, I kinda miss the older art style in manga and anime, stuff like the Nausicaa manga and Mononoke-hime. Stuff that wasn't all excessively large hair and weapons and lite on plot.

Elite fans don't just kill anime fandom, they kill fandom in general. No one likes the trekkie who *****es about every single thing and looks down on you for not knowing the correct pronunciation of Klingonese.

    That's just "Klingon", nub. :D

That said, I wonder why American companies that release don't just keep track of people downloading illegally. Why not use that to their advantage and somehow get stats as to what people are downloading more...and try to release that sooner than later? I do understand that there's an oxymoron in that, because they wouldn't be popular unless you let people watch it first...but, it would stopper what drivel gets released here.

In general I think most companies are taking the wrong approach to internet bootlegs. Don't fight it, capitalize on it. You're right, use bootlegging as market research. Sure people can get a series for free on the internet but they can't get the 2-disk collectors edition with 2 hours of special features and a fold out poster. Our kind love gimicks like that and will pay good money for a special collectors figure that comes packaged with the series we just watched for free and know we love.

Don't fight it, use it. The sooner the media companies pick up on this the sooner they'll start raking in $$ like they used to before the Great Bootleg Revolution.

    that's crazy talk, boy!

besides, i think they're afraid to use it due to the whole "piracy" thing that gets thrown at it. personally, yes, i would download to see. but how many others, like me, will then go and buy it to have a good quality version of it? though, the subs sometimes blow. but i'm picky =p

I *did* buy 120 dollars worth of Azumanga Daioh for the stupid (read: horrendously cute) pins of the cats and such after I've watched the series many times. And $80 for Comic Party Revolution, simply on a recommendation. And $170 on RahXephon, to which I bought the ugly first box, then the movie's 2nd box! And all of the unfinished KareKano series...

You're right, they just need to think about how to use the market to their advantage.

I just hate, hate, HATE the scaling of anime DVDs. Because they're cheaper when they come out, and they actually get more expensive if no one buys them. They start out at 19.99, and during my stint at Best Buy, tops of at 34.99 for the DVDs that were once popular (Noir comes to mind). I dont' know if they still do that now...but it was TERRIBLE when I saw it, especially if I was the one repricing the stuff. ADV sure liked to stick it to people's hearts.

I'm more than willing to pay. But their supply/demand charts are just plain WONKY.
