definitely check it out on DVD, Charlie! the movie delivers an extremely dignified portrayal of japanese culture and its ppl during the samurai era... oh, and of course, the battle scenes were totally wicked, yeah! :)

no, the last samurai was Katsumoto *i think that was his name* strictly speaking its about unreal to history as you can get. it is based loosly on too famous events. the first being the shipwrecking of Adam Smith *again i think that was his name* he was shipwrecked in Japan. and after a while he came to learn the language and actually served the Shogun as a samurai. the second event was the Southwest War against Saigo Takimori. part of the bakufu he didnt like the fact that the Ishin Shishi had one the war. he took a band of samurai and tried to stage a Coup. unfortunetly he was defeated ending the samurai lineage. so strictly speaking Katsumoto was based on Saigo Takimori. and Allgren was loosly based on Adam Smith. it is an excellent portrayal of japanese history as well as the Samurai code of Bushido. an over all excellent movie.

also the samurai times were over by this point. the samurai had been around as a class from probably the early 1300's. the symbol that put the Samurai ahead of the rest, that being there swords had been placed under a ban by this point which still stands today, unless one has a permit. So other than these dissident samurai the Samurai class no longer existed...read the thread about "The Last Samurai" in the movies section.

The Lord The Rings movies are historically inaccurate...compared with they're fictional book-history!

    What are you talking about?

Have you read the book. If you have you'll realise that they are completely true to the books. What you read in the book and visualised in your mind as you read it is what you saw on the screen.

This is an outrage! Jackson has defiled the history of Middle-Earth! I demand a trial! ;)
