I always structure my characters because that way they are mapped out, and you can more easily draw them again, which is needed in animation. Start off with a action line, I like to look at this as the spine, the spine makes the character very dynamic. Second draw a stick figure to measure out the length of the limbs and such and to get the pose you want, I liek many people liek to look at this as a skeletion. Third you need to use basic shapes to form the body, I like to look at this as building the mucles...and head. After that fill in the details like eyes, and then add clothes. For me i sometimes skip these steps, or rather get to them at different times. Like many people said, I liek to start off with the face first, and get the facial expression right, if the face is trash then I don't move on. Hands are really hard to draw, I struggle to make them feel natural. (excuse spelling and grammer)
