I have been debating over the fact of if I should post this thread in the Anime section. But What do some anime names mean. Like how...

Kagome: is some kind of a bird

Kikyo: is a kind of flower

    etc.

Ranma - Wild Horse (Ran - Chaos Ma - Horsey!)
Genma - Can be taken as Mysterious Horse
Tatewaki and Kodachi are actually various names of short swords.
Tofu - East Wind (Not tofu like the food, though a LOT have thought so)
    Herb - ...herb LOL
    Hitomi - Eye
    Hikaru - Light
    Hotaru - Firefly, I believe
Akane - Red Cloud or something close to that. (Tendo - Path to heaven)
    Umi - Sea
Sakura - (Because I wanted to put it before someone else did) Cherry Blossom
    Goku - Energy (right?)
    Gohan - Rice/meal
    Trunks - Underwear
Bra - See Trunks, female version
    Tsubasa - Wing (right?)

    and some other stuff...LOL.

Thus the quotes. Hehe, it's a hazarded guess.

Anyway, let's put a few more...if I can come up with some.

Aki - Fall (LOL, I always get my seasons mixed up, so that might be blatantly wrong)
    Ai - Love
    Nodoka - Calm
    Yuri - Lily
Ken - Fist, sword and some other ones...
In opposition of Ranma, RanKO means "wild child".
    Tenchi - Heaven and Earth
    Rei - Zero, spirit (?)
    Usagi - Rabbit
Tsukino - Interestingly, if you read it in conjunction with her first name it's "Rabbit of the moon"
    Usako - Bunny
***I don't know the other scout's personal names, but their familial names all have to do with their "element"***
    Umino - (Ami) - "Sea"
    Hino Rei - Fire Spirit
Kino - (Makoto) - "Energy?" ...err, okay, I forgot this one...
    Aino - "Love"
    ***Cool, ne?***

Okay, probably way wrong again...but doesn't having a "ko" in your name a little feminine? Gah, can someone clear that part up for me? I mean, I haven't really heard any male names with "ko" other than Makoto an' ya kno...sure.

I read somewhere that using "ko" along the lines of a suffix (like good ol' "kun", "sama", "san", etc...) meant like someone you regarded as an equal, like a "co"-worker...

Course I also read crazy tabloid headings on trips to the supermarkets, so who knows....?

    Ryu - Dragon
Goku was Momotaro's monkey buddy, wasn't he?
Baiko & Tamasaburo were Geisha actors(men dressed as womento act)
    Yume(yumeji) - dream
    Tetsu(tetsuo) - iron
    Taro - tiger
    Alucard - Dracula backwards
    Sakura - cherry blossom

Ko was used as a suffix for women, kind of similar to -kun, but is hardly ever used these days. Ko at the end of a name is common though(eg, Motoko, Haruko).

I had thought that Taro was the equivalent of saying "joe" or "kid" in japanese. A common, or oft. used name.

Taro is just a common japanese name, same way Ryu is. People often seem to be named after juunishi and stuff, I'm sure many western names have similar derivations.
Tenshi is angel by the way
    Rekka(Recca) is a raging fire
    Shirai is white
    Hatani is grey
    That's all for now.

    "Anata ga suki."
    "Anata ga daisuki."
    "Aishiteru."

Take your pick...but I suppose that daisuki is more...pronounced that just suki. Dai- is like a prefix for...big. A LOT. :D
