The series is to be continued pending the conclusion of the manga series.
Anyway, i've read about 3 volumes after what happens at the end of the anime and its not nearly as interesting.
It basically becomes monster of the week as gatts in the new world is a hunted man.... theres a few plot twists here and there from what i've read, but i think the hawks story is the most interesting and if they actually don't follow it up, we will have gotten the majority of the good stuff

    oh yeah....

Probably one of the best anime's about, fact that this board has been so dead since it started is probably due to the fact that the series is only getting an official release as of this month.
I'm not sure of the exact date , but planetanime.com has the date and details, first 5 episodes on DVD, and will continue until they've released all 25.

    Get it, its good :)

    Guts is the nuts!

I agree with all you guys, that the show has little closure, other than it's intial monster of the week episode. But I also agree that a continued series would literally devolve into a monster of the week show, thus removing the interesting blend of deception, politics, not to mention kick-*** action!
How about this for a suggestion: that rather than get bogged down into a monster of the week anime, that the story has closure in a one-off two-hour feature. Either that or a 3-5 part OVA. I reckon this would give us all satisfaction regarding plot closure, while avoiding the monotony of a stereotypical series as described above. What do you think? Please tell me if you think I'm right or not.

thats nutts you can't just skip 21 mangas and then only make an anime out of the last manga. which is now the best sold manga of the last 2 years in japan

In my oppionion, berserk was a good series, but when you get to the last episode which is episode 25, it will leave you hanging, then in order to find out what happens next in the series you have to either read the anime, or play the berserk game on the dreamcast. the game is a sequal to the series.

This is not the case, the game is not a sequel to the series.
It was openly made as another story that has no relevance to the anime or manga stories at all.

The anime is split in two (according to its writer kintaro) for the simple reason that the story is in two pieces.
If you look at the first series as being the life of gutts as a warrior and leave it at that, whereas the second coming series will be based around the latest manga which covers his life as a hunted man.

I've now read up close to the latest manga and its quite the story.
I won't let anything out but its not the monster of the week tale i thought it was. If the second series materialises any time soon, you'll all see how great it is :)

Berzerk is a great series; violent, but great. I too agree it is inconclusive, but would rather wait on a real continuation than have a poorly done OVA try and wrap it up. As others have already said, there is alot left to work from. The manga is still going, and maybe there is wisdom in working from completed manga as anime does not nesecarrily follow the same linear course of events that the manga does. As long as there is still manga coming out, I will be happy to wait for a conclusion to the anime.

yeah, i watched that at lord of terrors house with nicholas D a while ago..

I had stayed up all night so I was drifting off into sleep every few minutes while watching it, but the parts I was awake for blew my mind :p

when the last ep finished and nicholas took out the DVD i was like.. "THAT'S IT???"

really.. such a bad place to end the anime heh
i wouldn't mind that much if the second part was already animated, but it's going to be ages fore it happens

The 24th volume of the manga is released this november in japan. I have translated scans of volumes 1 thru 23 right now but i haven't had a chance to actually read past volume 1. A friend has and maintains that its not really showing any signs of stopping soon, and the main problem is that after the black sun theres a few too many differences between the manga and anime for them to easily continue the story. Skull knight was never introduced in the anime, nor was puck and alot of explainations of the egg of the king mean that they're going to have to take some other direction if/when they continue.

Kintaro was asked about a second series but said that no work would be started on the anime (if at all) until the manga series comes to a finish.

The story of the hawks (vol 1-13) is designed to be a half story, with the remainder of gattsu's life being the second half, so you could kinda expect a vol 26-ish finish. That said, its roughly 6 months between each manga release, longer when the author is sick and has been on and off.

If someone wants to donate a VERY large chunk of webspace, i can give them the entire 23 volumes scans, i think it weighs in at about 800 or so megs.

Best way to distribute Berserk manga is by CD.
A good few of us are on 56K so burnin CD's is a cheaper and quicker option.

A friend of mine will be sending me the manga's on CD, I'll happily send these to any Irish Berserk fans.

Was Puck introduced during the band of the Hawks (TV) part of the series in the manga?

I got the Dreamcast game and wondered who the hell the little Cam Clark voiced runt was :D

The TV series kicked *** even if i did see it on average quality VCD's.

Eh, can I have some Berserk manga please?

Berserk is my absolute favourite series of all time. After I had finish watching the whole series in LOTs house I felt like watching it again right away but I couldn't so I did a couple of days later. Argh I really do ****ing love it. Ah but I do love Caska even more.

I don't know much about the manga/tv series after the Band of the Hawks arc but I do know that Puck is introduced shortly after the end of the first series.

Yeah I bought the Dreamcast game as well but it just wasn't the same without the japanese seiyuu so I bought the jap version and what a bloody difference. In the jap version they have all the original seiyuu plus they use the music from the tv series which the US/Europe version did not. In the intro sequence as they are entering the town you get to hear the song 'Forces'. And I'll tell ye I got all misty eyed when Caska spoke at the end of the game. It just didn't have the same impact with english voices. There is supposed to be a Berserk game coming out for the PS2 sometime this year, well in Japan at least.

I don't have a cd-r drive so I don't have that much I can trade. I could trade Outlaw Star on DVD. It's not the R1 set and the extras are a bit crap, well I don't know what the extras are on the R1 are but they're probably better. The extras are textless op/ed songs and some art galleries. On VCD I have El Hazard the Wanderers(9 disks) tv series dubbed, Generator Gawl(6 disks) on VCD unsubbed(I'm not sure how much mileage you'd get out of this but it's a great show all the same), Record of Loddoss(6 disks) War dubbed and possibly Blue Seed(13 disks) subbed. All of these are proper releases disk art, boxes and stuff, Blue Seed even has some extras which are great.

I probably have some more stuff I could trade but I don't feel like digging through all my stuff right now.

Maybe you could trade some other anime stuffs to make up for the difference in disk numbers. Preferably in VCD format if possible. Do you have any j-drama? I haven't watched any yet(though I'm expecting some to arrive in the next week or two) and I'm a bit curious.

    http://www.thehawks.org

They have a good few chapters for download and are constantly redo-ing the old volumes to improve them. Go into the IRC channel to get downloads from the guys who are generally pretty helpful. Its large, theres currently 23 volumes and its pretty close to 2 full cd's.

If you don't have the bandwidth, leave a message here and i'll get back to you. Don't go giving away dvd's etc. for the cost of 2 blank cd's!
