well......how do you feel about "might makes right". i feel it does. why? because the strong go on and the weak don't. for example:the guy who gets a jobs and makes money most likely will do better than the guy who justs hangs with his friends.

To many definations are needed here.

Who's to say that the guy who hangs out with his friends has a job that requires less time at work yet earns more than this guy who works his *** off.(& if you do find such a guy... please tell him to send me an application form :p)

Or, ok right now im unemployeed (Dont worry im looking)... yet i found out that some of my friends who have good jobs are quite stressed out with Debt & wish that they could work out life as we jobless people go

Good point. But a guy who hangs with his friends all day surely can not have a job unless its selling drugs( which i don't thinks thats a real job.... ). But back on to the topic, I think in order for mankind to go forward, you need the strong. And if your not strong then you get left behind.

When was hanging around with your friends "all day" implied? Of course someone who hangs out with their friends ALL day won't have a job, that's a given.

As stated above, the "strong" who have jobs that pay a lot of money are usually the ones that are stressed out, have no vacations and never see their family.

I'd much rather have a job with a reasonable schedule, even if it involves missing out on maybe 3 more bucks per hour.

I'm sorry. I did not state "all day". But just because you have a job that gives you more money that your average worker does not mean it will be stressful. Also what do you think about the weak? Do you think that people have the right to walk over them just because they are not as strong as you. This can be any kind of strong( body, brain, etc. ).

    Oh is that so?

Usually, to get paid a lot you need to work a lot, which leads to stress.

Your good at this debating stuff( most likely not even trying ).But to get back on to the topic, will you agree that the employed guy(who is the stronger) is better of than the other guy( the weaker )?

Better off in what way. He'll definitely be better off financially. However I think more there are things that are more important to be "better off" than a good job, like family, friendship, morality and happiness.

Of course.. But if the social welfare system is good enough the other guy will find a job sooner or later and be given the same opportunities as the "stronger" guy. But I think your terms are a bit off, to say that "might is right" is closely related to what Thrasymachus had to say justice was in Plato's Republic.. - "the interest of the stronger person."

In my opinion the "stronger" people should give the other "weaker" people a hand to give them an equal footing in the world.

In Rurouni Kenshin, Seta Soujirou was taught by Shishio that "The strong survive, the weak die" But later on Soujiro asked himself "but... is it really that bad to be weak?" Not everyone has the same opportunities in this world.. Men still have an edge in jobs, but this is just because of their gender! For the longest time chinese immigrants were disliked in Canada and were forced to pay money to enter into Canada and were then payed crappy wages to build the railroad. This is not because they were weak...

You may also be interested to know about the deserving and undeserving poor. In 1601 Queen Elizabeth passed the poor laws which saw people as either the "deserving" or "undeserving" poor. The deserving poor were those who were disabled, children, elderly or had a serious illness. Now the undeserving poor are the "people who just sit around and party all the time" or just don't feel like doing anything even though ehy are fully able to go out and work. Now even though the undeserving poor are like this does not mean that they should be left out in the street to starve to death.

The Universal Delaration of Human Rights

    Article 25.
    (1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.

    (2) Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.

If anything you have to look at the past of these people. They may not believe that they can do anything, even though they can. This is a huge part in social work called empowerment. You have to empower people to believe that they can go out and work if they do not believe they can. You have to look at social organizations that may influence these people.. you can't blame only the person for not having a job. Such as with the Chinese immigrants who were seen as "weaker" than the majority white population in Canada. And because of this they did not have equal opportunities as the white Canadians...

The social work student has spoken

Well the way you put it, it's not even a debatable subject.

it is a debtable subject depending on how you look at it. what i'm saying by might is that the world only provides for those who provide for themselves.

I am just trying to state that might,"strong people" make whats right in the world. The weak cannot oppose what strong do , therefore what strong do is right.

Well.. this is a huge debate going back thousands of years. You are coming up with a lot of interesting questions. You seem to be having trouble stating them but a lot of your questions are ones raised in University level philosophy. I have a feeling that I will get negative karma for doing this, but I'm going to give you a quote from Plato's Republic so you can see what Socrates had to say to Thrasymachus when Thrasymachus said the same thing you are.

What about lots and lots of people who on their own are weaker but as a whole are stronger?

Just because you can do it doesn't make it right. You have a rather scary idea about how morality should go.

I mean, was Hitler right when he ethnically cleansed? He was strong, and they could not oppose his might. Does this make it right?

Ultimately, however, there is no universal standard of morality, hence this debate is flimsy to begin with.

Just because sed person hangs around all day & makes alot of cash he/she must be sells drugs... thats a bit steriotypical/ignorant. i was refering more to... for example; Security guards... they rake in quite a bit for night shifts in certain places... & then the sed person can go & hang out with there friends during the day.

Also you never said it had to be a legal job

again many definations are needed to make a point in this Psuedo-debate (SP?)

& one more thing... you dont even need a job to be well off financially... one co-worker in me ex work (Did part time work for extra cash before you ask) he told me that he worked a way around the social claims side, him & his girlfriend had a council flat, she had a child & was at college, he said he was a lodger for the childs sake... they get to stay in the house for bugger all & there minor needa are paid for with the child welfare... he worked part time to get things that werent food/child related... so you dont need to have to be "stronge" job wise, just smart.

Sometimes might makes right rather literally; for example when the victor rewrites history and erases his opponent from it. He won, he has power, he creates right for himself in retrospect.

In the sense that it was asked though, no I don't think might makes right.

    might makes right

might does not always make right ..........
people that have wealth and all that may think that they are better than every body else...........which makes them think that every one is under them ........so when they are ever low on luck they will have no one
