I have to say VHS (???). The main reason why I still like VHS is bec. we don't have a DVD player...hehehe

I abhore bumping dead topics, but this one deserves it.

    For me, DVD. Why?

Aside from the aforementioned reasons of quality, ease of navigation, durability, space and such...

On the whole, DVDs have been cheaper for me. While there are certainly exceptions to the rule, you tend to get a little more bang for your buck with DVD.

If you can buy, say, 6 DVDs at 30 bucks each, instead of 12 tapes at 20 bucks, you've saved 60 bucks. "But thats unfair!"

No, it isn't. Tapes hold less.

1st DVD of Slayers: 6 eps.
1st tape of Slayers: 4 eps.

The DVDs kept holding 6 episodes, whilst tapes began to cut down to 3 episodes a tape, IIRC.

The box set of Slayers as DVDs was only 4 dvds and took up about the same space as two tapes.

Box sets of tapes are rarely pretty due to their monstrous size. The Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight box set (as tapes) was actually bigger than my printer. I'm glad I held off and picked up the DVD version.

I think both have good qualities.

There are some series you can not and will not find on DVD.

I think that is what will help VHS survive as long as it has.
