Video Games Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

This is a definte reason to buy the Xbox 360 is to get this game. Sadly, I don't have an Xbox 360, so I guess I'll have to wait than.

see...I was hopeing to make a thread about this myself explaining everysingle detail about the game...I love Morrowind's huge and deep massive world...go around without a purpose be a bandit and steal living off the richs of the masses and steal from them..and still be their friend..oh...yes... Well I'll say that this game is indeed supposed to be one heck of a game. It's said that everysingle NPC is knowlelgable of their surroundings as in if thiers a potion and they are practicing with the bow and the potion they drink will increase thier marksmanship.

The game is very deep and massive and very Rich...I can't wait for it. XD

I'm thinking about getting this for my PC, i just got a nice RAM upgrade so i'm thinking it should run at a good speed at least. I've heard the batle system has been improved, so that should be good since i actually found the system in Morrowind a bit bothersom.

What bothered me was the leveling system. You had to specialize in a few skills each level in order to properly maximize your stat gains. That sort of thing is just annoying.

For example, in a previous developer diary, Steve Meister mentioned how players can now cast spells and swing weapons at any time, without switching from one mode to the other. This is worth mentioning again, as it’s a small improvement that gives large returns – fights are more visceral, casting spells is easier, and those who use both weapons and magic will be able to do so very fluidly.

“Yeah”, I hear you say, “that’s all well and good for Battlemages, but what about all of us pure magic users?” Take my advice – lose the sword and replace it with a staff enchanted with a ranged spell. These babies act just like rocket launchers; when used, the caster holds the staff out in front of him/herself and hurls a powerful projectile out of the business end. Best of all, just like normal weapons, you are able to use these enchanted staffs while casting regular spells with your free hand, an experience that you won’t want to miss. Combine all of this with the fact that Magicka now regenerates constantly (just like Fatigue, albeit more slowly) and mages can be pretty badass indeed.

Let’s move to some pure magic goodness – projectiles, the indispensable tools of Mages across Tamriel. This time around, the team wanted to give each projectile type its own flavor, both through unique gameplay perks and cool graphical effects. Cast a Frost Damage spell, for example, and a cloud of icy vapor will issue forth, enveloping the immediate area. This cloud will hang in the air for the duration of the spell, afflicting anything that enters. Try casting a Shock Damage spell, on the other hand, and you are in for a much different experience. There’s no meandering cloud or contained ball involved here; casting Shock Bolt will let loose a white-hot lightning bolt, which rips through the air towards the target and then chains out to anyone unlucky enough to be standing within the area of impact. Even the classic fireball has received some upgrades. A Fire Damage spell will cause the target(s) to burst into flame for as long as the spell lasts. If they’re really unfortunate, it will be an area spell and create a huge explosion, blowing characters, clutter, and scenery back with the all of the kinetic energy stored within. (sidenote: Havok physics + giant explosion + flaming skeletons = I love my job!)

Of course, there’s a lot more to the magic system than fireballs and lightning bolts. Many of the spells from Morrowind have been given major facelifts, or reworked entirely, in an effort to make the system as exciting and useful as possible. My personal favorite is Detect Life. In Morrowind, this effect placed icons on the minimap indicating where creatures or characters could be found. It was a nice effect but not workable for Oblivion, so now when Detect Life is cast, a magical cloud, which is visible even when the creature is not, will envelop each nearby creature. You can watch these clouds to track potential targets, and usually you can even identify which creature you are looking at by the specific shape and movement of its cloud. This effect is sometimes paired with the new Night Eye – a useful combo in our dark, atmospheric dungeons. More importantly, the spell gives the player extra information without breaking immersion, so when you cast the spell you actually feel like a sneaky wizard spying on your enemies. Score!

Many effects have gotten this treatment. Thanks to Havok physics, Paralysis, in addition to being a crippling tactical nightmare, is now also totally hilarious. Nothing says “step off” like freezing your opponent solid and watching him fall flat on his face!

But you block well, and as he recoils from the collision, you quickly perform left & right slashes with your sword (two clicks of the left mouse button, about a second apart). The bully realizes this isn't going to be easy.

He backs off a bit, and starts dodging around you. First to the left, then to the right. You maneuver to keep him in view, looking for an opening. Suddenly he steps back, raises his mace in both hands, and steps forward, bringing the mace towards your head in a crushing blow!

But you're quick -- you step to the side as he attacks. As he passes by, you execute a spinning maneuver and slash him in the side (hold left mouse button and left maneuver key). The hit is solid, and your foe staggers from the blow.

But it's not over yet. The bully swings his mace wildly -- his first swing misses, but the next one connects for a blow that sends you staggering. Pressing his advantage, the bully bears down on you with a power attack of his own. OUCH. This isn't going well. You take a glance at your health meter; it's getting a bit low. You quickly back up out of the bully's reach and raise your shield (hold right mouse button).

He's hurting, too. You circle each other for a time, looking for an opening, trying to recover some fatigue. Finally the bully charges forward with a devastating overhead blow, perhaps hoping to break your shield. But the shield holds and the recoil send him staggering back. This is your chance! You perform a mighty forward power attack (hold the left mouse button, press forward) and connect solidly. The blow staggers your foe once again, and you perform 3 slashing attacks in rapid succession (three taps on the left mouse button, about a second apart), and finally the bully collapses to the ground, defeated.

Also Remember best attack..Gone thier is no more chop slash and yadda yad. It's all real combat and to the fact we can have a weapon and cast at the same time..zeetomg think of the possibilites.

Stealth has been improved. They have been looking more into the Theif series for inspiration meaning..when you sneak..it actually works.

True they have added horses back into the morrowind games. They haven't done that since I think daggerfall right? But they don't have carriages. bleh..who cares KILL THE UNBELIEVERS ON YOUR MIGHTY STALLION.

Has the date been changed again or is it still the same? I want to know so I can begin saving up and making time for this game lol

Can we say 7 days...7 days...7 days.. OMFG seven more days and Oblivion is finally out for all of us greedy gamers to get. Is anyone else over joyed as I am XD All i have been able to talk about is oblivion and I CAN"T WAIT.

Oh yes Is it me or when you get in a certain vehical on a game everything else just doesn't matter...just run it all over XD (horse's)

I really cannot wait for it. It was my first choice of the 360 but then again I cannot resist anything with Patrick Stuart in it. I do really enjoy RPGs and this is the only out for the 360.
