..like others look at you as a stranger or a weirdo because you are an anime freak (and proud that you are one!)? I have. It's like, deep inside, I really want to express how much of a fan I am, and I do. But sometimes, even my BEST friends think that all I ever talk about is animes animes animes, and nothing else. It kind of alienates us with this kind of feeling.

Yeah, I agree with Sachiko. 'Cept that I feel the same way with anime and cars. I'm proud to be an animanic and car maniac, but sometimes I just feel like keeping my fool mouth shut because I may talk about that stuff too much...:D

Well, I don't talk about anime with my friends much, because they are small minded philistines who reject that which they do not understand. In other words, they think it's porn. I really don't care if people give me queer looks because of my liking of anime. If they have a problem with me, they can talk to my fist. Mr. Punchy.

I get this all of the time, and I don't mind... I'm proud to be considered weird and it's my goal in life. Hence, why I go around speaking like Yoda and saying stuff like "cheese" every once in a while. But usually the people who think I am weird I start talking with them about anime and by the end of the conversation they become anime fans ;) I find that it doesn't work for most sports fans, or fashion lubbers. Although if someone does have a problem with me liking anime, or talking like Yoda or saying weird words everywhere then I don't mind because I'm in a democratic country ;)

Heh... I guess I'm the lucky one from this bunch.
Although there are several (probably 80% of school) who thinks anime is all porn, My school was kind enough to fund a group call anime club. all we do is watch animes thus it's name. Most of the kids tolerates it but once in a while a freshman comes up and ask 'what you guys doing in there, watching hentai' and my immediate responce 'I'm gonna give you a ten second head start'

Too bad they're gonna get rid of it next year because of funding. :(

all i know is, the ppl that don't understand why anime is popular because "she doesn't like it" are annoying. just remember, not everyone has an iq over 1. and not everyone is gonna like hearing nothing but talk about it. i know i get strange looks when i start on it...but i also give strange looks at ppl when go off on just one thing...i don't mind either way. i feel a little dumb for a bit, but continue in my quoting anyways.*^-^* mainly cause ppl who don't like it are fun to confuse.*^-^* that's what random quoting is all about.*^-^*

(and a girl did say that in the store...i pity her boyfreind...standing there, looking at dbz and her knockin him.)

I never ran into that kind of situation since a pretty popular kid at school loves drawing anime, and calles it Japanimation. So when ever I am doodling some times a kid next to me would be like "tight, shes drawing Japanimation, can you draw something for me?"

Well, I've run into that. ^^; I must say that I agree with That guy! ^^ I'm proud that I'm unique. I'm happy being part loner. I'm an only child so I'm used to it. I can entertain myself. (Books and anime--and an internet ready computer. ^^)

But it gets annoying, yeah… And that happens when I'm on a low, and then everything crashes...

And then it comes back up again! ^_^

The only times I've run into problems like this is when I bought some stuff from a department store! It really does feel alienating at times but with Legato, Vash, Wolfwood and our other friends around it isn't so alienating for me anymore coz we all love it!

The only thing I can talk about in my classes is wrestling (and that is really annoying) and video games due to fear of rejection from a group friends I only just made.

I hate the term Japanamation because it sounds weird, it isn't its real title and the Simpsons use it to knock it (mind you they are competing in a similar market space).

I'd go nuts if Vash, Legato and Wolfwood hadn't dragged me off to a weekly club about a year ago now!

I even caused anime withdrawl symptoms to occur in a friend off mine who I turned into an anime fan! They rocked up at my place pretty well begging to watch some!

Cool. Group therapy thread. Why not?
By the time I discovered anime I was well used to alienation because I came via science fiction and comic books (Vash the ubergeek here!) mostly anything written by Neil Gaiman (who may be known to the serious anime nut (Yo, Knives!) as the guy who did the best yet English dub - Princess Mononoke) and Grant Morrison. So I was well used to being patronised for my taste in reading by people who read Jackie Collins or, god help them, Michael Crichton.
By this stage I just find it funny. They poke fun at me and it's water off a duck's back. Besides, I have Wolfwood and Legato and Knives for support!
By the way, I'm pretty well built for an ubergeek. I work out. Ask the other guys.

I have to agree with Bloodberry. People calling it japanimation really rubs me up the wrong way. Grrr.
I sometimes feel a bit awkward going to forbiden planet(nerd land IRE), but I just say **** It. And if people stare, I smile at them crazily.

i have problems like that sometimes...
one of my REALLY good friends got me into Anime and even got me to come to anime club has suddenly decided she doesn't like me using japanese phrases and talking about anime because i only watch "teeny-bopper anime" -_- i DON'T she classifies basically ALL anime Teeny-bopper now. she says anything that is sold in american stores is Teeny-bopper. irritating.

but i have alot of good friends who draw anime or anime styled stuffies. OR i've got my friend Joe who's an anime ENCYLOPEDIA. if there is an anime i've seen... chances are he knows the entire series history.

my school is tolerable because i've gotten pretty much all of my friends into anime... but what i don't like is the whole new "trend" of wearing Japanese charactures on shirts an' stuff... i've seen ppl walking around with shirts that say in sparkly letters (roughly translated) "I'm a *****!" @_@ and they think the shirts are "pretty" i think you should REALLY find out what you're wearing BEFORE you put it on... could you imagine wearing that shirt in Japan? @_@

but i love Japan. i've been there before and i can't wait to go back, now that i'm older and have a more "refined" taste for the cultures (i was four when i first went... i lived off fruit cuz i thought everything else was "ikky" cuz they didn't have any Mac 'n Cheese @_@)
some ppl think i'm weird because i draw "cartoons" instead of crappy stick figures or realistically.. but i don't really care.. cuz they think i'm weird for existing (the whole "nothing but black" helps too tho.. >.>; ) *shrugs* alot of people can't embrace wide varities of culture... hell.. they barely speak english! why do you expect them to understand someone who likes things of a whole diffrent language?
