Anime ever felt like..

Totally! People insist that manga is comic books and I kinda explode.
"IT'S NOT COMIC BOOKS! It's MANGA!"

Last year I the only one in my school into anime, but this year a girl from Russia transferred here and she likes it as much as me, and she knows as much about it as I do!

She likes Rumiko Takahashi's works the best. But me, I love all anime!

I also hate when people call it Japanimation...it's just...wrong.

Anyway, so I'm ok, but I want an anime club!

 

All those people who think that anime is weird are certainly missing out on one of the best things in the world.

 

I never really got made fun of because of my love for anime and other aspects of Japanese Culture. I always kept to myself so I never really talk to anyone about anything, but sometimes I do talk about it and I've scared people with my inane chatter about an anime I've watched recently x.x

Me and my best freind were the only people in high school who were into anime, sure there were people who watched stuff like Evangelion, or Ninja Scroll, but ask them about something that hasn't been on TV and they wouldn't care

It annoys me too how people call it Japanimation, it sounds so.... I don't know.. Like you don't hear people call stuff like The Simpsons something like Americanimation

 

Yah, when I was at school, It was all 'Blah, blah,blah Evangeliuhn, Blah blah blah Ninjuh skrull" 'Me big anime fan, me love titties(wish me could see some real ones someday, mebbe if me make birthday wish..)etc and it was irritating you know? as a smart, handsome, anime afficionado, I tried to stay out of such circles. God Bless Knives, Vash and Wolfwood.

 

Whats wrong with calling Anime "cartoons"? To claim that they are otherwise would just reveal another typical bias, that "Cartoon's are for kids". Most new cartoons appeal to older audiences, and a few cartoons in the 80's were also rich with adult content, such as "the real Ghostbusters". South Park is based on Adult themes, is it not a cartoon? Aaaah! It's the mister hell show, is a very "mature audiences" show, and I do believe it is also a cartoon. What about 'The Critic"? What about "Futurama"? What about "Invader Zim"? Are you trying to tell me that these are "for kids" because if you are, then you're just as bad as those who would call Anime "for kids", wait, no, you'd be WORSE because you would claim to be all for the heralding of Japanese Cartoons as Adult shows, while at the same time claiming that CARTOONS ARE FOR KIDS!! JUST because they are made in JAPAN does not make them any less CARTOONS.

 

Prehaps Zanza feels that "cartoon" is a too simple, debasing word with negative conotations.
I mean say you were a photography fan, and one of the photos you were looking at was a black and white nude or somethin'. Then some guy says "HAW, Porn!" technically he isn't entirely incorrect. But it'd still p*** you off right?
I actually agree with Legato, but its important to see it from other peoples perspective, you know?

 

Still, porn is a dirty word. Cartoon, is not. And don't feed me that "Other points of view crap," because Cartoon should NEVER be a dirty word, and if a person makes it so, then they are generalising. Generalising is BAd (shakes fist) very baaaaad!!

Yes, anime is cartoon, but it's more. It has more thoughts into it, unlike the cartoons we have these days, i.e Ed, Edd 'n Eddy (+_+).

And hey, I like cartoons! I like it better than movies! Yes, I do. Also, it's because the movies we have these days have no good humors already, and even if there are, they're dirty humors... I TOTALLY prefer animes!

What about Legato's point that some non-Japanese cartoons (or anime, if you prefer. We can call movies 'eiga' too if that helps) are really cool too? He listed off some really good ****. I'm all for bagging Americans (sorry guys, but it really is fun) but they have produced some very high quality art, and some of it is animated.

Hmm. Maybe I actually typed in '****'. Sometimes this thing just goes off in my hand. Look at July.

Cartoon is the visual medium, NOT a way of describing the content! Stop using it as if it contains any mention of the themes, motives, characters or place of creation, it Just means an Animated feature or series! You can say "Japanese cartoons are better than western cartoons" but you can't say "Anime is better than cartoons" because that is a nonsense sentance! Get it? Pleeeease say you do.

 

I get it! Legato has a good point.

it's like: A cartoon is Not how you describe an American animation, or any other animation. It is how you make an Animation.

Cartoon: a preparatory design, drawing, or painting (as for a fresco)

Anime: 'While anime is sometimes erroneously referred to as a "genre", it in reality an art form that includes all genres found in cinema or lituriture, from heroic epics and romances to science fiction and comedy'

I think I got all that right
