I recently got the anime movie, Escaflowne the movie and it's so great! I've watched 5 times already! The anime is so amazing! Van and Hitomi have very different personalities and it has nothing to do with the series. Dilandou- however that name is spelled- is still a phsyo, a lunatic, mad man with magical powers! Van and Folken have them too, magical powers. Van is very bloody and Hitomi is well...wants to fade away. It's quite a good movie though. The songs, two main ones, are very good! What I don't like is the ending. It just iirates me the way they ended. If you see it you'll see what i mean, i won't give the ending away. By the way Hitomi is supposedly the "Wing Goddess" Alen is way bishi but kinda hot looking and Millerlena is way different. No blonde is this babe. She has redish-orange hair and wears a very weird outfit. Watch the movie it's so awesome.!

Yeah, I got that movie. From what I know isn't it supposed to be a variation of the Visions of Escaflowne series crammed into one movie? I got the movie without completely watching the TV series.

Actually, A Girl in Gaea is a retake on the whole series. Instead of multiple characters to focus on, they aimed the spotlight directly on Van and Hitomi. It was also presented differently. I like the movie over the anime, just because it was more of what I wanted...focusing on who I wanted it to focus on. Yes, it's more violent, Van's more prone to psychosis (hehehe) or bloodlust, and Hitomi seems depressed for a lot of it. But, it was more interesting to me.

Oh, yeah, Van looks really odd in the movie. Really odd. He's the one character design I liked better in the anime. Well, maybe Folken as well.

I rented all the DVDs of the Visions of Escaflowne from my library (not all at the sametime). I really enjoyed watching that anime too esp the twist ending. I so love twisted endings like you see in this anime. Than I accidently downloaded the movie of Escaflowne and I seen by skimming though it that it is pretty much the samething as the series. I said to myself why should I watch a shorter version of something I already seen. So I never really watched the movie cus of that reason. I recommend watching the series. And for people who have seen both, if I have already seen the anime should I reconsider watching the movie?

I think you should watch it. If only to see how it's told differently. Sure, there isn't too much difference, but there is a difference. Character interaction is one of them. Also personalities take on a bit more of a dramatic role. Again, as I said, the focus is more on the Van and Hitomi pair than anyone else in the series.

Having seen both, I can guarantee you that the movie is not a condensed version of the series. Similar basic plotline, same main characters (sans Dornkirk), different execution and motion.

As for Van's character design for the movie, I like it better than the anime version. But that's me. ::drools over roommate's Escaflowne movie poster::

Yea the movie i thought was better than the anime, kinda, cuz i haven't seen all the anime episodes but in the movie Hitomi figures out really quick that she likes Van and wants to be with him although the ending kinda contridiates that or something like that...heeehee. anyway, the movie characters were very good and i thought that van's image was pretty good. his tatoos are are kinda cool too. skimming the movie isn't that great of an idea, i think watching the whole thing is better cuz you get the better gist of it. that's what i think. the movie was awesome and i wanna get the artbook! actually i want the cd cuz of two songs, Yubiwa and Sora! Those songs are so awesome!

Kawamori seems to be developing a tendency towards making movie versions of his series. First there was Macross: Do You Remember Love, quite possibly the movie that has created the most continuity confusion in history. Different character and ship designs, different story timeline including deletion/addition of events... yeah. Great movie but due to it and Macross 7, theres a lack of continuity in the Macross universe (you ask why. Tell me why Exedore switches from his series design to his movie design in between the series and Macross 7.)

Then there was Escaflowne the movie, which... well, thats covered here.

Then there was Macross Plus: The Movie, which didnt actually screw with continuity. If anything it just leads to debate over which concert and Guld vs X-9 fight is better.

Ugh. I ramble too much. Pointless post from me... ah well.

I believe he's talking about the producer of the movie/series. It seems to have been done by the same person. The examples of Macross: Do You Remember Love and Plus the Movie are some of his work. He's just stating that he seems to like putting his series in a movie format as well, and sometimes, it's exactly the plot of the series (though, I don't know if Plus counts, because that was an OVA) and sometimes it's almost completely different (DYRL, A Girl in Gaea.) That's all he's really saying. Honest.

A Girl in Gaea is the official title of the movie. I think it's just called Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaea....as opposed to the anime series' full name: Tenkuu no Escaflowne (read: Vision of Escaflowne). Or, as it is known to Fox Kids viewers.....just Escaflowne.

    Escaflowne The Movie

    I love Escaflowne The Movie.

Although, unlike the TV series, this movie is directed at a bit more mature audiences...

What was your favortie part of Escaflowne The Movie??

Mine has to be when Van took that horse, and then it just exploded. (he did it all with his mind!!)

So, What was your favorite part of this anime greatness?
