    ??

humm after reading all the replies I'm now interested-though is kinda late- to know what happens on the Escaflowne Movie. I watched the series on tv but the movie was never out. I saw it a couple of times in the stores but never got the sense to buy i'll maybe i will now.
If somebody would be nice to explain what happened on the movie that would be nice! I know their is no connection than why was their a movie there must be a point.

Coldzero, the movie has exactly the same plot as the anime...just a different telling. It doesn't have nearly as many side-tracking and sub-plots as far as just Hitomi and Van. The graphics are also more violent.

Overall, it's more drama than the series could accomplish in a small package.

yes...in a way...the details are a little bit more obvious...there are almost literally no sub plots...the art work is much more involved...small differences appear such as Allen and Van's swords are now katana's instead of the sabers that they used in the TV series...

I for one did not especially like the movie. For one thing it was overly confusing and the plot was changed to much from the original series. Also I hated the character designs, they got ride of Hitomi's cuteness and they made Van to primal and agressive. Also I really didn't like how there were no subplots which made it a little boring.

But also remember that the original manga versions had both shonen and shoujo volumes (in other words, there was the girlie version of the series, and a more masculine version). I remember reading in an issue of Animerica magazine seven years ago (yeah, seven years!) that the anime series was to combine both shoujo and shonen elements. (That's how Hitomi ended up with short hair and a stronger personality, but at the same time having room for lovey-dovey romance here and there.) And so I guess that A Girl In Gaea is sort of a much more shounen version, thus the extra violence and the darker designs.

I actually did watch A Girl In Gaea, but... I actually forgot everything about it! Maybe it was that similar to the series. But I did remember watching it with the mindset that it was a "sidestory" to the series. My friends even describe the movie as being "totally different" from the series, although I'd say that it's similar but different. There is quite a different feeling as well.
