Final Fantasy 7 was the first FF to make it's name in this country and it was my first FF and RPG that I played... I 'don't' have a favourite game. I have a favourite game in each category, FF7 belongs at the top of my RPG list.

I usually try to talk people into games I like.... and I have succeeded a few times... but seeing that you don't like 3D games then that really limits me to how I should persuade you... So I won't bother.

However I do respect people's decision. Everyone's different.

I do not care what you think. it will not change my mind. I hate FF7 for many reasons. Bad Graphics, has a gay part where you have to ddress cloud like a girl, odd controls, no card game, materia junction, etc.
I like FFVIII because I do. I do not mind you telling me about FF7, but it will be a waste of your time.

Right so, I think you've just lost all of our literate readers.
And you should know, that the graphics were quite exceptional at the time, and I think they hold up damn well today also.

    Lets review,

Bad Graphics?What?-The field is done in that way to give a certain nastalgic feal to the game, and you oblviously did'nt see any of the FMV's.

Dress Like a girl?-Does that frighten you?A man in a womans kit?Sounds kinda Homophobic to me?...Hmm?

Odd Controls?Wow, I know it must have been hard for you to get your head around the action button-circle thing and Triangle menu,But you could have just changed the controls if you cared that much.

Card Game?Wow,I know when I go to buy an RPG I want a card game. You wants cards?Play solitare till your arms fall off.

Materia Junchtion?--------------At the risk of directly insulting you, you're a fool if you cant figure that one out.

And you oblviously did'nt play the whole thing through seeing as you did'nt mention anything past the first disc, and cant seem to understand how to work materia.

So I say keep your opion,I'll stick by mine, thanks.

I understand the materia, I just wish it was like other FF games where you must learn the spells, instead of buying them. I forgot about one more thing that makes me not like this game so much, Kinights of Round takes too long. I recently started playing this game again, after losing my old memory card, On the old file I was on Disc 2, at the end of the disc with the Hojo fight, now I am at Temple of Ancients on new file, toook 6 hours so far, let me know if you have anything else to tell me.

Actually, if anything, probably every first RPG paved the way for every good RPG of today. But anyways, this is coming from someone who doesn't like how everyone thinks FFVII is the best thing to happen to RPGs.

Seven was a watered-down piece of trash. They don't even let Cid speak his mind! FREE HIGHWIND, damn you! FREE HIGHWIND!

The only thing worse was #8. Squall made me want to throw up. But then, so did Cloud, Aeris, Yuffie, and that Mr. T knock off Barret.

I liked Sephiroth, though, especially when he killed Aeris. I had a shot from that movie as the wallpaper on my computer for months. Of course, then I found out Lance Bass played him in Kingdom Hearts, and then he made me throw up too. He did have the only realistic Masamune, though, considering it was a katana and that's what Masamune made.

Hmm...the only FF game where you actually "learn" spells would be FFIV. In every other game thus far, you've had to buy them in some shape or form - be it by Gil, Draw, Ability Points, or Magic Spheres.

I agree, I wish more FF games were like that, but it's been forgoed in the namesake of "customizability".

Then don't use it. Simple enough. Not a very credible complaint coming from someone who chooses ff8 as their favorite game of the series. I suppose you never call upon a GF? More game time is lost summoning GFs in FF8 than you would spend with how little actual game time KotR could take (considering you can only get it near the end of the game).

FF7 is second in my FF ranks, as it is a classic installment. Memorable characters, places, and events. A long, intricate story, akin to anime. A number of extra sidequests and minigames to keep one busy. Challenging play (well, to some degree, and not counting powerlevelers. The final boss was a big let-down).

Plus, for console enthusiasts, it was only halfway between the classic and new styles. Far closer to the nostalgic 16-bit and 8-bit feel than any FFs to follow it.

Only FF9 has surpassed it as my favorite. :p

Huzzah! IX rocks! Maybe now I won't have you keel-hauled.

I think VII tried too hard to look pretty. The movies were, at the time, stunning, but the rest of the game ranged from mediochre to sub-par. The first time I really sat down to play VII was on a computer, using that clunky old Bleem! program to run the PSX version on a computer. I said "geez, this thing doesn't do a very good job emulating the graphics. This looks like garbage," and my friend said "oh no; that's how it looks." Not direct quotes, obviously, but you get the idea. Sure, they tried with the 3-D thing, which was still new to RPG's back then, but Squaresoft could have done better. And better chocobo music would have been nice. Not that it was BAD, per se, but the classic mambo was better.

Not like anyone really cares, but I liked the game... even though I expected it to be much better. When Aeris died I was like, oh... it happened too fast.

Pfft. Screw VII, VIII and IX. I and Tactics all the way. Meliadoul's better than Quistis and Tifa combined. So ha, take that. VII was just overrated, but VIII and IX were just stomach turning and flat-out boring.

*shrug* To each his own. Tactics was very dry and boring for me, actually. One of many games I went out and bought and never finished... Then again, so many Tactics fans liked FFVI at the same time, and that never really rubbed me the right way, either.

Dude, did you play Tactics? It was like Final Fantasy meets Shining Force! The only problem is the lack of noses some of the characters exhibit ...
VII and VIII were that whole "future fantasy" idea that I never really cared for. I don't want to play a science fiction game that tries to hide behind a fantasy franchise to sell. If I wanted SF, I'd just play Fallout instead. Also, VII makes the mistake of trying to explain how materia works. You don't EXPLAIN magic! You just use it to blow up monsters!

It's not just you. All of the Final Fantasy games are linear. FFX just doesn't spend any effort at all hiding this. Every scene goes from point A to point B. They even prod you along the map with the "go here cursor". That really took away much of the game's early influence on me.

The jury is still out on it until I finish, though.

Good point BMS, the Go here cursor was really stupid, I liked having a world map too. But atleast it's world map wasnt like Chrono Cross/ Trigger. That was too small and easy to navigate on.
