You're very nearly contradicting yourself there, Shinryu.

The buildup was what made it such a happy ending. If the premise to the end was all happy, then the ending wouldn't be as uplifting as it was.

The same goes for almost any anime you can think of. In order to have the most profound effect, a large confrontation must take place. Usually, mostly, these confrontations are painful and emotional.

Which is why SMJ was a "happy" ending. Like Evangelion.

Good point. I suppose it could be considered a happy ending by some. Certainly, I was glad it ended the way it did. If it didn't happen that way, we wouldn't have J Again or J to X, and that would be horrible.

I don't consider J to X to have a happy ending, though, because
they died. They did come back as humans, but they still died.

As for anime with happy endings, I can't think of any not mentioned except maybe Nuku Nuku.

For weird endings watch Excel Saga, I can't tell if it's happy or not. It's just bizarre, and disturbing.

I saw Excel Saga having a happy ending in episode 25. Episode 26, just ignore that as being some form of ending at all.
Excel kicks the hell out of the jerk who possessed Ilpallatzo and they look like their relationship will finally blossom as they fall down into the darkness to escape the exploding base. that's all I recall...
hmm I can think of a sick-o horrible ending. Princess Miyu. what was that? change of subject.

Record of Lodoss tv had a good ending.

Love Hina had a happy ending, but doesn't every romance?
Azumanga is also a happy anime/manga the whole way through, with an equally cheerful (but not sappy) ending.

Ah yes, Nuku Nuku.. good example.

    back to SMJ..
Well same here obviously. I thought it was cheap, because it meant that they hadn't really sacrificed anything and it partially negated the last couple episodes, but make no mistake: I was happy to see them again (even if I felt a little cheated). Like Minority Report (should have ended with Cruise locked up) SMJ would have been better without the happy end, though I don't think I would really want it that way. And then we wouldn't have j2x.

Anyway, the very end was happy, what preceded it wasn't. On those lines, would you consider Video Girl Ai to have a happy end?

I think ALOT of anime has happy endings...Love Hina is one. Well it sorta is if you were rooting for Keitaro and Naru to be together  Cardcaptors Sakura has a happy ending too...I think Azumanga Daioh does too.... :anime:

x3 Fruits Basket is happy-ha-ha all the way through. (Well, not really, but I don't wanna spoil anything...)

Just watch it. xB Or I'll bite you.
