ive bought a few. they are good but not what you expect, they arent as much tutorial books as books with a pic of every possible pose imaginable :p

But yeah, i think the ones about clothing is the most useful. the one that is most useless is the "getting started" book. it is basically a catalogue of all the pens etc you should have before you start...

My school bought some for the Anime Gang... It works better if you just follow the pictures... don't read it. that's why I go for the japanese versions.^^

I have one by Christopher Hart. It's pretty good, got how to draw eyes, faces, etc. The comment about learning how to draw folds is true, it comes in handy. The clothes DO make the man. :D But, they are useful when you're just beginning. Gives u a good idea of what you're going to have to learn. :dizzy2:

I have 3 books. I have volume 2 "Power-up Manga techniques" , volume 3 "Compiling Applications and Practice" and The Special Edition "Colored Original Drawing. They are really useful.

They help a llloooooooooooooooot! I recommend these books for all Mangakas , they are the BEST!

Hiya. I found an online animation course offered by Telecom anime (they did Lupin III). It looks pretty interesting but really isn't something I want to do.

i bought the screen tone book and its not that great.it dosnt tell you how to apply the tones or anything.there's no step by step guide or nuthin.theres also some hardcore hentai in it if you havnt seen it,i mean like chiks with very tight straps and money shots! wasnt worth the 20 bucks!...i also got the chris hart book..its ok..theres some great pencil work in the fantasy section but his anime style is very flat and undynamic.although thats just opionion....hope this helps

There's no specific one best one, they all help with whatever the topic, so basicly, choose the one that helps with what you wanna draw.......
I know that isn't much help, but if it's the first how-to-draw book you gonna get, choose the 'Lets get started' one, It's brilliant for basics.

Hi again everyone!! Well christmas has been and gone and i've got the books i was after!! I got the "Bishojou/Pretty Gals" one and also a "Pose Resource Book (Vol 1)" Both from the How To Draw Manga series!! The pose resource book has been handy and the bishojou book is great!! My drawings have become much more stylised and professional looking since i've read it. Referring to it from time to time helps add in small detail just to giva a drawing that extra "edge". Anyway, i'm so impressed that i'm getting the follow up, which is "More About Pretty Gals" But it's not released for purchase in the UK till Jan 1st 2003, so i'll order it around then!! :)

i think largly that the how to draw manga books are sorta of useless to any real artist.all they do is teach you how to draw like somebody else,in fact there is no definitive way to draw manga everybody does it differant. if your really serious about becoming a manga artist you should pick 2 manga/anime artists that you go buy one of there art books and study them. look at them and find what you like and what you doint like about there individual styles.by mixing what you like and what you doint you'll create your own style which is what every good artist has.

Hey hey there's no loss of style here! Looking at a reference book to tweak your drawings isn't like blatantly tracing someone's work.

Wouldn't that be learning to draw like someone else? What's the difference between looking at an artists book and looking at a how to draw book? None. Only that they are an established artist and the other is a reference book.

Tell ya what, i'd like to see some of the work here of the people that come on and criticise. Nuff sed eh!

I definitely ain't no artist, but...learning off of other people's work and styles is how progression takes place. It's going further than that which makes it new and inspired. This the word, "inspired". You gotta take something from something to make it new. :D

Inspiration. Now, that's what i'm talkin about! Cheers Izzy Izumi! You said it perfect! By looking at someone else's creation or perhaps just one little step that they took to create their piece of work, so much inspiration can be gained, so that you kinda take a step back and say "wow, i wish i could create something as great as that" Inspiration is so cool, i love it when i see something and think "god thats sooo cool" But i'm definatley not one for copying people's work, or even stealing parts of it. Some people might get satisfaction from doing things that way, and thats their choice, but i personally wouldn't.

I sometimes get a bit hot headed when people say about "stealing" peoples techniques, or that refering to books or the internet is "cheating" so sorry if i've pissed anyone off!! :(

    Thanks guys :)
