for sure! those nothing worse then a bad art teacher, by bad i mean by uninspiring. just to the point where you would rather draw in the cafeteria then go to class, i know thats what i was forced todo on some ocasions just becuse i didnt want to hear my proffesor talk down to me or about anime. has anybody had a bad expiernce with art teachers or proffesors? or any good ones worth mentioning?

I got a god one and a bad one.
My high school art teacher was completly against anime, manga and anything that "smelled" like it. I did a pen and ink on Pluto transforming which came our really cool, she gave me an A (better have, that was a hell of a lot of work and it looked awesome) but also said if I ever did anything like that again, my a** would be in the frying pan. She said it "wasn't artistic" or something like that. What the heck is that supposed to mean?

The cool thing about that class tho is we pulled all sorts or pranks. Calling other teachers, glueing soda cans to the roof and turning backpacks inside out mulitple times to the same guy. So Art class wasn't that dull.

Aaaaargh!! What did i start off like? It's started to turn into a fully fledged war!! Anywayz, i'm in the middle of some revision (history to be exact, it's total snore-city) so i decided to take a ickle break and check out whats going on here. Initially when i discovered thsi board i just liked seeing pictures that people had posted up, just to see some of other peoples work, coz some of it is amazing. (oh good god sorry to bring the how to draw manga thing back in) but on that site theyve got like a gallery where people can post their work and they can have comments posted at the bottom, the work on there is stunning. Anyway glad to see the shoutings dissappappeared. And hey, 7th son, ur right, the art business is so competitive, and there'll be hundreds of other artists all competing for the same buisiness. I like to indulge in a bit of anime, jus coz its damn sweet, but i dont think i cuould pull it off properly, best left to the japenese i believe.

Anyway, i see you're talking about art teachers huh? Well when i was 15, i chose to take art at skool, and well, all the art pupils were split between 2 teachers, a really nice one and a horrible one....guess which one i got?! The horrible one! At times she could be pleasant, at others she could be a *****. It wasnt that which used to annoy me about her though. it was her constant criticism, honest to god she hardly sed anything positive. Giving positive comments enthuses people and makes them work harder. She also was very un-inspirational ideas and if you asked for help shed give u really naff ideas, and i mean naff. She predicted me a A* or A for my work. At the end of the 2 years i got a B, dissapointed? You bet i was. I believe if i hadnt had her, i would have got a better grade.

My current Art teacher is a god send, shes one of the nicest people you could ever want to meet, shes enthusiastic and if you need the help she helps you develop your ideas into something deep and meaningful as well was something which is well cool!! Anyway, my grade last year was a B, i missed the highest grade of an A (this is a UK A level course) by 9 marks, but im on score for an A this year, so hopefully, i'll get it!! And prove that nasty old teach that she was wrong!!!! :dizzy2:

That nasty woman i had for art also sed that!! She sed she hated cartoons and things and so did the examinator. Supposedly they aren't "art" and dont show "true talent" according to her. I meant what the hell, you've gotta be talented to draw them man!!!!

All art teachers hate manga and none of my animation teachers will give anime a chance. To them it's either pokemon or ultra violence, just fodder for teenage boys. I tried to show them mononoke hime but with no success.

And seeing as we're talking about art teachers. My life drawing teacher is the biggest bit*h there is. We have an I hate her she hates me relationship. When I was a first year we only had her for one term(she got maternaty leave) and we had another teacher, Laura, and she was the best life drawing teacher I've ever had. We actually enjoyed drawing with her and the quality of our work got a lot better with her(I recently heard that she was one of the best drawing teachers in Ireland). But now the bit*h is back and our drawing has suffered. I still go to every class for some reason. Drawing in the canteen sounds good though.

Luckily it's a class full of animators so she can't say that cartoons are a load of crap. But I bet she thinks it anyway.

sometimes its sad becuse almost every artist i know of or have talked to has had some kind of horror story with art teachers and proffesors dealing with anime and animation. but for every teacher you hear of thats not understanding or inspiring you hear aboutt he one teacher that really made a differance . mine was an art proffesor named brozavitch, he tought art10 intro to art. i went into that class thinking i new my fir share of art and what not but after taking that class a whole new world opend up to me, every kind of art form scarification, surrealizm, sculture etc etc he was one of thre most inpsiring people to listen to, he always said (doitn bielive everything i say make your own decisions on what you see but question everything) he made you want to create somthin with an idea and a purpose. ever since his class my idea of art and the ideas and what you can say with them have forever been alterd.his art class was the first one i really looked forward to being in just to see what id learn about. but then you have teachers like my art11a teacher who would spend clas time talkin to you about how you doint put any effort into what your doing or how its all your fault your not learning anything and anime has been done to death and it serves no purpose and requires no skill or art school recruiters who tell you to stop drawing becuse theres people drawing anime better then you are and schools will never accept you if you show anime in your portfolio. i think in the end dealing with people like that makes you a stronger artist because youv had to hear that and still keep drawing. once you hear that you either quit drawing or keep doing it with the drive to make it better just so you can through it back in there face. iv have had to deal with those kinds of people and many times id sat at my drawing table and cried because of what they said.but ill get the last laugh and hopefully so will you!

Yeah, can i just say that, in my experience, examiners who mark art students work are such pigs!! (No offence if someone online here just happens to be an examiner!!) I mean who are they to judge students work really, if they dont like it, it doesnt get a good mark, if its a crap piece of work, but they like it, they'd probably give it a high mark, i mean purlease!

When the art examiner was markin our work last summer, i accidentally walked into the exhibition room when she was marking it (i was only going to check that all my work was set out correctly) anyway, she spied me and started roaring "What are you doing in here?!?" i was like, "Just here to check some of my works up right" which started her off roaring agen "Well, IM the examiner and IM here to mark some work, didnt you see the keep out sign on the door?" Proper *****y. I was like "There isnt a sign on the door" (there wasnt one at all!!!!) and she continued to hound me about how there was a sign on the door and about how i should have read it. Anyway, i scarpered before she could grab my name. Turns out shed been askin the art teacher who the young lady was who disturbed her marking...ooops...hehehe! :p
