I hate those kids at school (im sure u all have this problem!) who think theyre sooooo cool and dont even attempt to under stand what anime is all about so every time youll be talkin about it with a friend some jerk will come up to u and be like "OOO u guys are talkin about your stoopid pokemon again!" when your really talkin about FLCL or somethin, I even remember one of you sayin that you were drawin sailor moon just because you were drawing manga at school or something. How do you guys deal with that besides ignoring them?
I know, its frustrating sometimes... when people grow out of cartoons they look down on it after they no longer appreciate it. So when you say 'anime' they automatically think cartoon = for kids = you're a loser. That type of thing. It'll be nice if they spend time to understand japanese culture and that it is not a immature thing. Anime is growing on to influence western countries but it'll take some time before it is fully internationally popular. So there is some time to go. Btw, this belongs in misc, mods of this forum should move it accordingly. ^Shen^
I know what your talk about I still know people like that, you alwas will. My sister the same way(But not as bad). Beside not all anime is for kid and if they know that they would keep there big mouth shut!!
A torch to the groin always made them be more understanding. Seriously though, I just overall ignored them. Why should I care about what they think? Clearly if they refuse to even look at it and respect others choices, they simply are not worth my time. ... ... also i'd blackmail them for payback...
People are always the same. When people in collage see my anime drawings in my A4 pad they all say "you can draw Pokemon". What? You can' draw pokemon. So i try to explain that its anime. Still not having much success though.
no one in muh skool knows what anime means............they are all like what they haven't even heard of DBZ
when you leave school and go into uni or whatever you will suddenly realise how little these people and their opinions matter, if they are happy in their little world leave them be and enjoy a quiet giggle every time they open their ill informed mouths, all you can do in the end is laugh.
Everyone calls me a Japan freak... ¬.¬ They have so little appreciation for anime, they just think it's all like pokemon!
cry at them until you are able to find the spoons, dental floss, and matches needed to exact your revenge. then, listen to them suddenly be very nice and fond of whatever you tell them you like.
Well i happen to be homeschooled so i dont really happen to face this problem. But if anything like that really happens i always fome back with some form of witty comeback normally following the lines 'your mom'.
The cop out answer: I don't talk about anime at school. To friends of mine who aren't into anime, I explain that it's a bit more mainstream there and as such is more like regular television here: some of it's for adults, some for kids. People are usually cool with that. To be honest though, I'm starting to doubt that it's meant for adults. Tired tired tired of shows about high schoolers. Occasionally they'll be in college- whee. There's good stuff out there, but I'm starting to feel like I'm lying a bit when I explain why watching anime doesn't make me a kid
Well, the fastest solution (though not necessarily the easiest) is to just ignore the "cool" people when they make comments like that. It generally isn't worth the time to come up with witty responses to all their comments, after all. Plus, if you react they're more likely to keep teasing you about it. The other option takes more work and more patience. Try to find out what the people who are teasing you about anime like. If you can find a common interest with someone, in general they are more likely to treat you nicely. Then, when you've developed some sort of common base, they might be more open to a discussion about anime. And if worse comes to worse, you can agree to disagree about things. Just remember...high school isn't the be all and end all of social interaction. The things that seem desperately important to you right now are going to change when you get older. You may even find that anime takes a place of lesser importance as you get older. Not to say that it won't stay important, but you'll find other things that interest you just as much. Besides, it's good to have varied interests. You get more friends that way. ~Shadrach Anki
Ah, I'd just have my revenge on em later. An apple to the skull, bologny all over the cars, you know the drills. I was just like "MOTHAF*&^& WHAT that'll learn you to talk to me without my explicit permission!" ... No, but a simple "Fark off, buttwad" or similar usually did the trick. Now, if you'll excuse me, the shower calls.
when they mention Pokemon: act surprised/comfused, "hu? what?" snigger a bit, and say "oh.. not my kind of programme kid." and ignore them after that. when they say that anime is porn: again, surprised- "If thats the sort of anime you know, I dont want to hear about it" should they continue with the pokemon thing: asking them why they keep talking about pokemon. They will try blaming you, so you say "no, your the one that keeps talkng about it. If you have some fascination with pokemon, dont talk to me about it" then refer to them as 'kid' or 'child' and walk away (or go back to drawing/reading whatever)
I simply don't talk about anime at school. The only two people I know who like anime are beyond immature. I did try having a discussion with them before, and just ended up wondering why exactly I was wasting my time. So nope, I don't talk about anime at school, therefore I don't have that kind of problem.
I just ignore them. If they persist I crack open something like "Akira" in full view, right to something gory, so they freak out and walk away. A kick to the throat works well too.
