    Maybe

I'd say it's definatly one of my favorite, but I can name a handful that I like more, but I'm not gonna. But yes, defeniatly one of the better out there. Has a nice plot line, and even a little semi-history to it. And lot's of charater development. But like I said, there are others.

Inu-Yasha is at the top of my list.....but it also has to do with what someone likes.
What one person thinks is the best anime others might not. But like I siad it's at the top of my list.

It really all comes down to opinion... but in my opinion...

    He-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-ll no.

I'll give it enough credit that it's better than, say, Pokemon, Digimon, Dragon Ball Z and The Big O... but that's about it, really.

But, that's just my opinion. ;)

There are many candidates... (NOTE: MANY, MANY SPOILERS AHEAD)

Although I'm not so much of a fan of it anymore, I admit, Neon Genesis Evangelion was a great series. Perhaps the best done idea of a semi-futuristic world. And perhaps one of the wimpiest main protaganists EVER. I hate Shinji with a passion... but stepping away from the whole silent-act or bad-*** hero? That deserves some admiration, folks.

Then, there's the good ole' standby, Cowboy Bebop. A former mafia-member turned Bounty Hunter alongside of an Ex-Cop, a computer hacker, and a femme fatale and a dog that would make Einstein look like an inbred Texan. Not to mention excellent animation (which is definitely shown in the first episode when we see the first bit of Spike's Jeet Kun Do (I think I spelled that right)). Then take into account the actual basis of the plot; a guy running from his past, being 'killed' multiple times but never dying until the end, when he finally ties up all loose ends.

Then of course there's Trigun. A gunman, known for having destroyed an entire town and has even been named a natural disaster, but is one of the goofiest and caring people ever to have graced life itself. A man so intent on not killing that his body has been horrifically scarred beyond belief. And we can't forget my favorite character, Nicholas D. Wolfwood, a smoking, drinking, killing priest, teamed up side-by-side with this almost-pacifist, and doesn't realize how bad killing is, even if its someone evil, until he himself dies.

Great Teacher Onizuka; a 22 year-old, perverted former gang leader becomes a teacher to score with school girls and when first arriving in class, is immediately hated by his class; but one by one he is accepted by his students due to his endless helpfulness, which ranges from saving a kid from killing himself, to going to a student's house because her parents sleeping in separate bedrooms and fighting is turning her into a *****, and he shows up with a sledgehammer and knocks down the bloody wall between the apartments! And let's not forget when Onizuka had to take test to prove he was worth of remaining a teacher, as he never graduated from high school. But being the good samaritan he is, he has to save the daughter of a member of the Board of Education and still manages to take his test (before passing out due to the bullet in his gut).

Then of course, there's plenty others like Witch Hunter Robin, an anime that takes the super natural creatures that were left aside. Rurouni Kenshin, a historically-based anime about a vagabond. Hellsing, an almost off-spring or alternate reality of Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Though really there is no "best" anime. There's only someone's favorite.

Well there's your answer right there.

I like Inuyasha, but try something a little more....well.......complex before you start to think that it's the best anime.

P.S. I happen to think The Big O is highly engrossing and entertaining. So there.

When I saw this thread, I thought to myself "Novus, that's the stupidest question you've ever read."
And I stand by that. Inu-Yasha sucks.

Um..NO! It's ok, but surely NOT the best. Watch some more anime than the kiddy stuff on Adult Swim. There is some bloody stuff out there.

Sorry, I'm not that big on Inuyasha. I like the manga more than the show.

I guess the show is just boring and predictable for me.

I really don't care for Inuyasha too much. When I first saw it, I thought it was great by as time went on, the plot just dragged on and on.

Inu Yasha definitely isn't the best anime, if you're judging based on some set standards and not simply individual opinion. If you actually compare it to other series in terms of character design, plot, complexity, soundtrack, originality, animation quality and so on, you'll see that there are many series which can outshine it in one area or another.

I find fault with the series in two places: the pace at which the plot moves, and the characters.

First, many people (myself included) have noted that Inu Yasha tends to... drag. It really feels like the series is spreading itself too thin. There isn't too much variance in the plot from episode to episode, either - every time, what are our heros doing? Looking for a jewel shard (or fighting a monster which happens to have a jewel shard, ooh, what a coincidence). Don't get me wrong - you can do that for a season, or a few manga volumes. But there comes a time when the plot needs to move on.

The characters don't really help that situation out, either. Most of them are pretty standard, familiar character types - you watch one episode and you know what their basic personalities are gonna be throughout the series. And the Inu Yasha/Kagome relationship is just... unnecessary. There are too many couples who operate on the "I'm falling for you, but I don't realize it until the last moment because we're always fighting, or I simply refuse to admit it!" principle already. It's obvious to EVERYONE that they're meant to wind up together, but they're blind to it. -_-; Very old.

Then there's the fact that I found these same basic flaws with both Ranma ½ and Lum, both also by Rumiko Takahashi. She uses many of the same character types throughout her stories. It was like she'd taken Ranma and Akane and transplanted their personalities into Inu Yasha and Kagome. And it's not just the way the characters behave - her lead females tend to look awfully similar, and has anyone noticed that Cherry from Lum, Happosai from Ranma ½, and Miyoga from Inu Yasha look almost identical? I realize that the 'tiny old man' character (who's usually a pervert) is very standard in anime, but it was a little much for me.

I could go on nitpicking every little flaw in the series, but I don't think there's much point. I honestly do like Inu Yasha - the manga more than the anime - but let's be honest: there are more enduring series out there.

Inuyasha is, without a doubt, my favorite anime. However I HIGHLY doubt that it's the "best" anime, first of all because there is no "best" anime since it's all a matter of opinion. But as someone else pointed out, if you take every little detail about Inuyasha and compare it to every anime there is, Inuyasha probably is nowhere near the top.

However, other then DBZ (which got old fast), and .hack//sign (which got kind of old too... besides it ended anyway), Inuyasha is the only anime that I've spent a lot of time on, so I'm kind of biased towards it. Probably the main reason being that I am a complete sap for romance, but I hate animes that are nothing more then romantic comedies. That's probably why I like Inu so much.

Even if it isn't the best, I still think it's an excellent anime. The storyline is imaginative, and (no matter what anyone else says) I LOVE the characters. The jewel shard thing DOES get old after awhile, but I can overlook that. Besides, you have to admit that the animation isn't THAT bad, and the music is incredible.

There's no way this anime is the best, and I'd think you'd need a pretty close minded person to think so.. or maybe just one who hasn't seen alot of other anime.

Has anyone ever seen "Zenki"? An anime made around '95. English subs were released on VHS, but I don't think DVD. Anyways, there are so many similarities between Zenki and Inu-Yasha I can almost, ALMOST accuse Rumiko Takahashi of stealing.

Okay, lets look at the topic queston. I"Is Inuyasha the best anime?" And, most people'd have to agree that the answer is a resounding "NO!" Seriously. There are better done anime out there, almost everyone can agree on that.

Now, do I like Inuyasha? Yes. Is it one of my favorite anime/manga out there? Yes. But one can't really call something "The best". It's all basically a matter of personal opinion.

Im not too hot about Inuyasha, when I first saw it I was like, "Hey, this could be interesting." But after a while, it just wasnt very good.

So, I can name a bunch more animes I like more than Inuyasha. I guess one of the reasons I dont like it all that much is because I'm not a fan of very long and drawn out series.

After about episode 26 (where most series cut off), they lose their "umph!".

But that's just one man's opinion.
