I thought it was just Luchs, like the German Panzer. Hehehe.

They're all named after German war tanks

Officially, it is Luchs. However, the germna translation of this becomes Lynx. Definately not Looks! I *hate* that version!

BakaMattSu, not that she's not a looker....:)

    An interesting note...

Do u guys know what a lynx is?

Well i found a webpage about them.

    http://www.edu.pe.ca/southernkings/lynx.htm

"Lynxes are not nocturnal, but they do hunt in the night. They usually hunt every 1 to 2 days. They don't chase or smell for food; rather they silently watch and listen for their prey, the snowshoe hare. Lynxes can move without a trace of sound, but they can only run short distances. These wildcats are excellent at climbing, but are never found in trees. "

The thing about the lynx is its excellent vision, so when someone can see very well you say he has lynx vision.

So it isn't a coincidence that of the saber dolls, Luchs (also "lynx") is the one bearing the analysis circuit. Compare with Panther who is obviously much more aggresive.

Now there's something that intrigues me about Luchs. If she's supposed to have an excellent vision and more stuff... wouldn't it be better if she didn't hide one eye behind her hair? :p

I really can't stand the "Looks" version either :( although I prefer either Lynx or Luchs... mainly Luchs because it is a German name.

Well, isn't Gartland similar to Germany? So I'm not surprised if Luchs in the German word for "lynx". It still fits into the picture of the Saber Dolls having "cat" names.

Gartland is pretty much Germany. They call Faust Fuhrer, and when you see through that saber's eyes in the first episode it has stuff written in german(eg. mench for person).
    I reckon Petersburg is Russia(obviously)
    Xiang(is that right?) is China
Roma is Italy(or else a mixture of various european countries)
    New Texas is America(duh)
I can't figure out what Japoness is though.

I hate the "looks" version as well...Whenever my friends talk about it..or write about it in notes..they always say, "looks" and whats worse..is they forget to capitialize the L...for a name..@.@ And I get really confused then..
I like Lynxs better then Luchs...but Luchs is the official name @.@

Looks came from Luchs, cause that's awfully close to how it's pronounced.

And yes, it is german for lynx if there are any lingering doubts.

I prefer Luchs, cause that's her name.

It's said that their names come after german tanks, so.

In WW2, a reconaissanse tank was made for the Panzerkampfwagen II (the long word is like AFV=Armored Fighting Vehicle), or "Luchs" (it sounds Looks in english). Lynx is of course it's translation in english. I watch Saber Marionette here in spanish and it was translated to "lince" (the same).

There's something more interesting with the two other names. Tiger has the combat attribute of speed, and Panther the Power. In the Original tanks, the Tiger (Panzerkampfwagen VI) was the tank for the power ("mobile fortress"). And the Panther tank (Panzer,..etc V) was the tank for the speed!.

Anyways, the saberdolls look much more cooler than the mecha monsters with threads;)

And finally, "Leopard" is another german tank, currently on duty in germany. Germans name all of their tanks after felines.

    haha maybe
So, I prefer Luchs because it is her name, or at the least her nickname.

random note, I guess it would have been weird to call a marionette Königtiger..

Yay, kapitanbar supported my answer. Also, on a side note, I thought it was spelled: Luchs, Panta, and Tiga? Geez, I must have been confused, but whatever, I support kapitanar's answer as he's supported mine. :D

Exactly!, although in german all vocals are pronounced as they are written (like in spanish), some german pronunciation tends to change the final "e" to an "Ah". then Panther sounds like Pahntah, and Tiger like Teegah.
