The Heralds of Valdemar trilogy is the first thing she wrote, so it kinda makes sense to start there, although you don't have to. Chronologically, the Valdemar books go something like this:

    THE MAGE WARS trilogy
    - The Black Gryphon
    - The White Gryphon
    - The Silver Gryphon

    THE LAST HERALD MAGE trilogy
    - Magic's Pawn
    - Magic's Promise
    - Magic's Price

    Brightly Burning

    VOWS AND HONOR trilogy
    - The Oathbound
    - Oathbreakers
    - Oathblood (anthology of short stories)

    Exile's Honor
    Exile's Valor
    Take a Thief

    THE HERALDS OF VALDEMAR trilogy
    - Arrows of the Queen
    - Arrow's Flight
    - Arrow's Fall

    By the Sword

    THE MAGE WINDS trilogy
    - Winds of Fate
    - Winds of Change
    - Winds of Fury

    THE MAGE STORMS trilogy
    - Storm Warning
    - Storm Rising
    - Storm Breaking

    Owlflight
    Owlsight
    Owlknight

Let's see....out of that list I started with the Mage Winds trilogy and then sort of branched out haphazardly. The Mage Wars trilogy and the Owl books were co-written with Larry Dixon, and Oathblood is a collection of short stories dealing with Tarma and Kethry, but not all of them are written by Mercedes Lackey.

Very, very, very kool, but for some reason lately I haven't been in the mood to read any of her books. Arrows of the Queen is one of my favorote set. Plus another good fantasy author is Tamora Pierce. O.K. I'll shut up now. :anime:

I've read quite a few of her books.

    The Vlademar series great.

But I particularlly like the ones on the element masters like Fire Rose and The Gates of Sleep.

They are loosely based on fairy tales like Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty.

Firebird was the last one I read by her. Very good!

I haven't read much by Lackey, but I did enjoy reading it. I've only read the Last Herald Mage trilogy and that's only because a friend recommended it to me. (What can I say? I'm a sucker for shonen-ai.) I keep meaning to pick up something else by her, but there is so much, I'm not sure where to start.
