"no da" is kinda like chichiri's own trademark. he just says it because....well...it's a part of him!

It's like, like, one of those things, like, people like to add to their sentences outta, like, habit or whatever, y'know?

There's a site out there for two girls who "dissected" everything about that phrase...

    Foudn this while deleting spam...

    the answer is simple.

No da (sometimes na no da) is a form of Japanese speech. You could think of it as the Japanese eh (i.e. So I went to buy some Fushigi Yuugi DVDs eh. - They're pretty expensive eh?) It has no meaning. It just so happens tho that Chichiri uses it excessively (like the americans seem to think the canadians do with eh -.-)

    EDIT: Thread reopened for discussion.
Thread stickied so this question doesn't get asked a million times like it probably would. ><

Miko's right, 'no da' is a verbal exlamation point, like 'ka' is a verbal question mark.

Actually, that's not true. chichiri can control it, but he wnats everyone around him to be happy so he acts happy and uses no da in his speech to make others happy. Sorta like a class clown thing.

Exactly. :) He can be either a real simple character or a real complex character depending on the way you look at it. ^^

Yeah it's an exclamation. Tasuki made fun of it a bit in the 1st OVA ¬.¬. But then chichiri threw a rock at him (YES!!)
Someone once said that Chichiri's friend Hikou used to say no da. But that's probably just a fan rumour. When the japanese fans watch it it must be even funnier cos it would sort of be like he shouts all the time o_O
