He he he! I got the answers for that.

We leave them under trees so that thieves wont steal them (at least in the old days) and pine trees were easier to either buy or find in the old days as well.
Besides, would a palm tree look better for christmas? Think of the advertisement!

HAHAHAHA they just had a special on the history channel... christmas unwrapped =) anywho once there were many festivals on the winter solstice... pagan ones mind you... the holly, the tree, they all had a different original perpose... but then the church was like hey we don't know the actual time of christ's birth and there is this huge pagan festival around the winter solstice... It would be too hard to get rid of that pagan festival so lets say that Jesus was born on the 25th and plaster the Church's word all over the holiday. Okay so maybe that wasn't their exact thought... but close enough for a slacker like me. AH HAH so they do have a webpage... here if you guys are so curious check it out here.

As for Saint Nicholas... he did exist.
    Santa on the other hand...

As for if he exists... Well my parents used the whole Santa thing as an excuse not to have to wrap all the presents...

I stopped believing in Santa at the same time I stopped believing in St Nicholas, which was about the age of 8. Not through experience (as in seeing parents put down presents etc) but through logical thinking. (I started thinking that the world is way too big for one man to carry presents all over, so I concluded some parents must've been helping him by doing it themselves. THEN I thought "all parents probably do that")

Gah, Santa's just a mixture of many jolly old men, such as St Nicholas, old Man Winter, and various others which I can't remember.

I suppose Santa lives.. just the way Elvis lives.. in each and every one of our hearts, in the smile of every baby. :p

Anyone else ever sneaked a peek at their Christmas presents before they got wrapped? I did once when I was 6, I only saw one, and I only remember now that it was some weirdo writing pad or something, and it did kinda spoil the fun a little bit. So I was always careful not to look in any bags my mom brought home around this time of year. :p

But yes, unwrapping the gift is 90% of the fun. :D

I never sneaked a peek but I spent a good 4 or 5 years trying to catch nick. I had some ingenious ideas to and they all would have worked too. But somehow that ffol managed to get by every single one of them. I wonder how?

Oh my God you just reminded me of a story!

When I was younger my brother said he'd found something amazing, so naturally I wanted to see what it was. Well, when he showed me what it was, it ended up being ALL of my Christmas gifts. I saw EVERY one. I was crushed. I went back downstairs, almost crying, and my mom walked in from the store and said, "So you guys saw all of your presents? Well, no presents for you then." I was stunned, but we got them anyway. Close call. Now my parents bring all of our gifts to our relative's houses.

lol this year I know way too many of my presents... why? 1. because I generally am taken along shopping 2. I am terrible at the whole write a list of things you want thing 3. I end up picking out what I want... and rather than waste gas, well it is easier to buy it then rather than later. hmm... my birthdays have been similar... The only suprise is what I don't get... I'm pretty sure that a zoom for my camera is not going to be under the tree... I know all packages that come to this house and all were from Washington... unless it was a clever plan... nah.

My parents gave me some line about lessing the work load of Santa by not having him visit any more or something... and then they said to the side that he wasn't real.... or something like that. Eh whatever. No one said I could remember it right.

I find Christmas to be a pain every year. There is just to much stuff to it. I want the roasting marshmellows under a christmas fire or whatever. The hot coco with your loved ones.

There was a santa. I think he has lost his meaning some.

Here in the states we dressed him up in a big red suit. Made him fat. Gave him 9 tiny reindeer to look after. A wife just as husky. A whole toy making facility. Also short people to work for him.

He was about giving what you can. Being with loved ones and showing them how much you care. Christmas has become more of a pain.

    The Pain:
Sending out christmas cards which I do a few days before christmas.

Presents. Half the people I know can buy what they like. Thank God for gift cards. Well atleast with my family they tell me what they want.

Family Gatherings. My son will have gone to 3 this christmas. He does love his toys.

If we got rid of all that I would enjoy christmas more. Or if I did something sooner maybe.

I like after christmas when I am off and all this is done.

Another pain is spiderman. I have way to much of him in my house. My son loves "piderman." He has a spiderman blanket, pillow, towel, bath cloth, stuffed spidermans, figurines, garbage can, outfits, shirts, and an ornament. We have the 2 movies. He can watch movie 2 over and over. He will be getting a spiderman game, outfit, lamp, big playset, plug into the tv game consloe, and a few other things. Goood thing is these phases only last so long. But he has like spiderman since his birthday. In four months it will be a year. You should be able to understand my pain. Especially when I walk on one of his spiderman toys or trip over them.

I miss the spirit of christmas. When I am with my family I bet it will come back.

oh god, i feel for what your going through.

i guess i should be lucky that my nephew is to young to know what hes infatuated with.

but your feeding into it ya know.

    what he already has.

    what he's getting.

what if it doesn't end anytime soon! it'll end up driving you insane. (worse than the damage already done:p )

So what you're saying is... That Basher's son... Could end up liking "'Piderman"... Until he's... *Gasp* 35?! Man, how rough would that be? What if he still believed in Santa and the Easter Bunny too? That would be a tad 'bit weird. Childhood heroes tend to follow them through life sometimes.

I had that problem with the gifts I ran into like 3 people and I had two of the three gifts in my cart. If they noticed I didn't care.

And then my son dug into my closet and got his gifts out. I said they were all for my niece/his cousin.

Yep. It doesn't help when you need a lot done. I forgot I need to make brownies. Thank god for my aunt betty crocker. ;)
