A friend of mine owns it and we watched the entire thing in one day then we went insane and started to actually consider suicide. but don't worry we are not going to do that.

Serial Experiments Lain is thirteen episodes on four DVDs.

And I know I'm not the only person on M2A that loves this series . . . come out, you!

I wasn't impressed with the first couple episodes, but I started getting into the series by the sixth and seventh eps . . . after the second to last episode hit its end, I fell in love with the series. It makes sense if you . . . well . . . make a serious attempt to make sense out of the whole thing. The series is very disjointed and non-linear, so you have to look at the series as a whole to "get it." If you expect to watch the first couple episodes and immediately understand what's going on, then you will be extremely disappointed.

Suicide? I was absolutely uplifted by the series' climax. In fact, it's one of my favorite scenes out of all of the anime I've seen.

    *****LAIN SPOILER*****

For those that have seen Lain, I'm referring to the scene where "god" begins to physically manifest himself after Lain "proves" to him the actual existence of a "God," while Alice (or Arisu) is kind of going nuts, not knowing what is going on, and Lain fixes the entire mess. Just thinking about this sends shivers down my spine . . .

    *****END LAIN SPOILER*****

    Or maybe it's just me.

    ::hugs his Lain box set::

If you are confused about anything in particular, I'll do my best to explain. It's been a while since I've seen the series, though.

i got the 1st 2 dvd's, but i'm not particualry impressed by it. it's good, but not all it's cracked up to be it seems. the 1st ep on the 2nd disc i really liked, but then the standard went back to the 1st disc. i'll probably finish the series eventually though.

I've only heard about this series, seen music videos, and read something which was probably the firts issue of the manga (there was a manga right?)

From the music videos it looks cool.

From the manga thingie, it looks more screwed up than Eva.

From what I've heard, it's disturbing.

I also heard that no little kid could possibly keep up wiht it. :p

So hwo old are you Raven? 10? :p Jk....

I actually wanna see this... what's the name of the girl that committs suicide at the beginning of the series? Can't remember her name...

Yeah, Lain is a great anime. I watched it all in one evening. Wouldn't really advise that, kind of was mentalising. It fairly slow to watch. I'm in the process of watching it a second time, but it's a slow process, I watched a couple of episodes a few months ago, then another couple a few months after that. I'm still only on ep. 5 or something.

This is mostly speculation since it isn't shown how Lain attained ALL of that technology, but keep in mind that Lain made some "techie" friends at that dance club, and her father was really into computers and she probably could have easily gotten stuff through him or even on her own, once she became engrossed in the little old Navi that she had in the beginning of the series. If I recall correctly, I think she does ask her dad for a new computer at one point and a delivery guy comes to her commenting on how high tech the computer is.

And while I think the amount of computer "stuff" in her room is quite overwhelming, that's not important to the plot . . . to me it just shows how immersed she is in the Wired and how connected she becomes, throughout the series, to technology and the Wired.

Her online persona in the Wired also seemed to be getting a lot of attention . . . in the last half of the series, she's asked to help a man with his computer, assisted by the black-agents-with-the-laser-type-eye-pieces, which indicates she does have a reputation in the Wired for her knowledge in computers, and this could have been easily assisted through others on the Wired, not to mention the Knights.

yeah, it doesn't really explain how she got all the stuff, but it really isn't important to the plot. It's just used to show how much of lain's life has become consumed by computers and the wired. and of course, you'd expect someone like that to be pretty strong and important in the wired...

i saw the series on Tech TV but didn't really understand it. I did however get it in a way when Lain disappeared when no one remembered her.

I watched the series, but it pissed me off i guess it's not my style of anime. An anime that proves a little girls existance isn't to thrilling for me.
