Signs will remain one of the greatest movies of all time in my opinion.

It had layers, it is very hard to find movies with layers...oh wait, I forgot movies don't have layers! Signs is a FILM! It can be studied to a extent, something worthless summer films like MIB will never achieve.

    M. Night is a awesome guy, and I hope more will take his lead.

The music in Signs is some of the best ever, period.

Don't worry, I'm sure the Earth will be safe after we deploy our Elite Guard consisting of a five year old with a hose:p

Wasn't the end of Ward of the Worlds stupid when the aliens retreated because they were no immune to our viruses? Signs, and War of the Worlds represent the exact same problems that happened with those who traveled the world in the 1400-1600s.

I have to agree w/ you a little, there, D3vil's Anjil. The previews played the movie down a lot more than how it actually was. It went pretty far out there, though, I did like it; for the most part.

Yeah, Signs certianly isn't for anyone that doesn't like to think, or feel any sense of emotion while watching a film.

Ever seen The Birds? Corny...laughable? Only to some, to the rest it is very artistic, a true wonder, and unexplainable, but that's the point. It's a drama, NOT a sci-fi or action movie.

You didn't even know there would be aliens? Brah, if you know anything about crop circles, alien spacecrafts should have been the first thing to come to your mind! Even the previews hinted at aliens. (But now that you mention it, it would have been more interesting if the story was about an alternate origin of those crop circles.)

I personally liked Signs because it did have aliens, and to an extent it was pretty realistic. (You know, first the crop circles, then the public commotion, etc.) Remember the movie "Contact"? I thought that was pretty realistic too (or should I say, idealistic?), but the ending spoiled all the fun.

Some people complained that "Signs" was too emotional/physiological, or that there was too much emphasis on the main character and his problems with his occupation. But you know what? It was still an entertaining thing to watch. Personally I tend to not have extreme opinions of any movie, that way I can just sit back and enjoy them for their entertainment value (hmm, since when were high-budget films NOT meant for entertainment?) than get caught up in too much mental conflict.

Yeah, I agree that the aliens' weakness was kinda...weak. I mean, don't they have the same stuff flowing inside of them? Some of us think "How can something so simple be dangerous?" (Well, I learned in science class that when live began on Earth, that mere oxygen was considered a poison until life finally got immune to it.) But as for "Signs," the aliens' weakness did play a trippy role in the serendipidous nature of the girl's main household habit.

That's what I like in movies: trippy plots, whether they are surprises, twists, or even just bits of serendipity. Also, I agree with the movie critics who said that the aliens were scariest when you first didn't know what they looked like.

Please don't compare this to The Birds. I feel emotion watching films, I think during films, but I thought Signs was crap. I don't think it in any way compared to The Birds.

I watched the Birds after Signs, and I was suprised to find how similair the two were. And then I found out M. Night used that film amoung others as a source of grounding. A makes a whole heck of a lot more sense to compare it to The Birds the to Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Did anyone here like Close Encounters? I would think so.

It is a family trapped in a house, which causes them to face perhaps a greater fear then the creatures outside, but themselves. Both are VERy much the same in this way, and succeed in making you feel isolated, and more emotional. And to me that is an important key...and to say the two did not relate in that way is ignorance.

Did you agree with the ending to The Birds? I'm sure you did, as I did. But did you know what the real ending was? A sequence that in itself would have taken over a month to film.

Hitchcock movies are all wonderful, but they have grown even more wonderful over time, this is a gift Night does not yet have.

Again, give me a BETTER ending to Signs.

    A better ending?

I've never actually seen all the way through Signs (as something of greater interest always comes up)... but here is one off the top of my head.

The aliens are actually the original race we came from and just wanted to reunite its colony with them, but due to divergent evolution didnt recognize us at first. We destroy them, only to find out at the end that we have destroyed our chances for a better life.

I saw that movie in the theaters and I actually liked it. Me and my cousin jumped and screamed a couple of times during the movie. When we rented it and my dad watched it for the first time, we made the aluminum foil hat and he watched the movie while wearing the hat. It was so funny. :D

I'm shocked at how many of you just look to one facet of a movie and judge it by that. It wasn't about an alien or the crop circles it was

    *SPOILERS*

About the loss of faith in a follower of God, because he lost his wife in a way that could only be intervention by God. He goes through a journey of questioning why it had to happen, and in the end, he thought he would lose his children because of God, but then, in the end every little "sign", such as the asthma attack that the son had, when his wife told him "to swing away", hence the baseball bat, and how the daughter always left glasses of water everywhere in the house, which was the alien's weakness: These events told him that God had a hand in preparing him for his renewal in faith, which is why he began his fellowship with God once more. All in all, it wasn't the signs of the crop circles, it was the signs that foretell that we are being looked out for or everything has a reason for happening.

    *END SPOILERS*

Before judging something look at the entirety of the matter.

Sorry Nephilim_X, but that is what was used in 2001: A Space Oddesy, and was recycled in Mission to Mars.

As stated, Signs has a double meaning, GREAT movies have layers, double meanings in visuals, and story, Signs has this, most movies do not. It's smart filmmaking not everyone can enjoy. Some people just end to find one layered movies like James Bond more appealing.

I didn't like it either. Very, very hamfisted in the "message" it tried to convey and not only that, the aliens were the most PATHETIC excuses for aliens that I've ever seen in a movie.

In a nutshell, cool idea but very poor execution.
