Before I start I don't mean to offend any smokers out there on m2a.

Okay here we go. Do you think that the people who get sick from lung cancer because of smoking deseved it? And all those lawsuits against the tobacco company's for making them sick that is total nonsense. The company didn't forcefully make them smoke now did they. It is the consumers fault. BUT.... I do think that the tobacco company's should donate money to cancer research.

What do you all think about this?

If a smoker wants to go destroy his body, he can go nuts for all I care. Long as he does it away from others who want no part in it, anyway.

Should the cigarette companies donate cash? Of course! If they keep their current users alive longer, that means more profit, and thats just good business planning! [/business man] Anyway, its up to them, really.

I'm suing McDonald's, 'cuz I got fat off their food!

Sorry, I know plenty of smokers out there, but when you start, you should at least know the consequences by now. Hell, it's required to post fifty-gazillion warnings on each cigarette these days. You really can't ignore that. I don't like people suing other people for their own negligence.

Now, as far as deserving cancer, no one does. It is an incredibly painful, deadly disease. Knowing this, I can't see why some people start in the first place.

I know a lot of people who started smoking as teenagers because they thought it was cool, and then got addicted and now they can't stop.
Really, I have no problem with people smoking, so long as I don't have to do it second-hand. The janitors here were smoking outside one day, about ten feet from my open window. We had to get them to move. If someone wants to smoke a cigarette, fine, but I don't want to smoke it too.

I smoke. Mostly weed, but cigs too. I'm aware of all the health risks and stuff, and I'm prepared to take that chance. No big deal.

What do you mean chance? There is no chance. You are going to get sick later in your life and get lung cancer unless you stop. But don't listen to me, I won't try and shape the way you live.

Why? I'm slightly aware of the reasons most teenagers start smoking but I can't figure out what it's appeal is. Is everybody today such a masochist as to wish the pain of smoking upon themselves? Well none the less, I only hope suicide is not the next trend to hit high schools everywhere.

It already has, Georgebob. I recall hearing that suicide is the #2 reason for death of teens in America, behind only automobile accidents. I could be wrong, though, and I welcome anyone who has facts saying otherwise.

I'm not going to defend why I smoke, because I know that everyone will label me as destroying my body, saying that I'm troubled in some way or some such. All that could very well be true, but I enjoy smoking. It can be very relaxing if you've just come from a stressful situation.

I thank you, Raven, for promising not to tell me how to live my life. I only smoke when there are other smokers around so I'm not harming anyone else, and I do it on my own accord. So to everyone else: I don't tell you how to live your lives, please don't tell me how to live mine.

See, that's my point. Do it that way, I couldn't care less. It's not that I even mind people smoking around me. It's just that I think it is rude and inconsiderate for people to light up in front of people just out of the blue.
My sister smokes. She's tried to quit, but lacks the will (weakling ...). Anyway, whenever she's going to smoke around someone, she makes a point to ask them if it's all right first. That's just common courtesy.

I used to smoke but I don't anymore.
I hate the way it smells and when you kiss someone it taste like an ash tray.

I don't mean to be a ***** but anyone I am with don't smoke around me. Why I cannot stand it plus I ***** at them. I used to say to them, "Don't mind me while I hold my breathe."

Second hand smoke is worse then first hand. I would rather die by my own hand then someone elses.

Of course doesn't it take awhile to die from smoking or second hand?

So Billy do you usely copy others? If a group of your friends jumped off a bridge would you do it too?

I used to believe I would then I realized that it is my body not theirs. Why should I slowly kill my body off? or is filling my lungs with tar a good thing?

Do what you want Billy. As long as you do it for your own reasons. I won't preached to you about smoking.

But if someone does smokes near me. I will never talk to them for awhile. Some places don't bother me because so many people do it there like bars. I am usely having a good time so I don't notice it.

Has anyone seen those "Truth" commericals? I like most of them.

One thing I hate is when people chew.

Basher, you remind me of this girl I know. She's very little, but very very angry most of the time. But coherent. Anyway, I don't believe Billy said he was smoking just because he thought it was cool, coz you know, his friends and like, other people, like did it. :) This topic is all about choices, do you want to smoke, or do you not? If you take the older generation, there are quite a few more of them who smoke because when they were kids there weren't half the warnings we had, and they're already addicted. Now, I don't smoke. At one point, I ridiculed smokers, saying that it was just "a matter of willpower" to quit. Wrong. If you are addicted, it's a whole helluva lot harder to quit than you can ever imagine. I've heard people say that even after 10 years of not smoking, you still get cravings. It's tough. Both my parents smoke, and I continue to urge them to try and quit. I know it's been tried several times, but obviously they are too addicted. It's a hard thing. Yet, I do agree with a lot of points made. I don't like ciggarette smoke, but usually smokers are very considerate (also take into consideration that it's a law not to smoke in public buildings anymore, hehe) and take their habit outside, or out of the way. So, yes. I urge all the smokers to quit, but it is your choice to do what you will with your body, and your life. Ta. ;)

As long as people who smoke do it outside, away from me, I don't mind it. I DO mind people smoking in resteraunts, bars, stores, etc, though.

There's this really pointless by-law in many cities these days that stipulates that patrons in restaurants may not smoke in these facilities, but may smoke on the patio. This means that the restaurants expand their patios to accomodate smoking customers. They also put a roof over top so it can be used during the rain, and put up cement walls to close it off from the street. There is just a small gap between the walls and the roof so they can pretend it is still exterior. If this is the way that the law is going to be used, I don't really see a point. Also, it hurts business.

I know a guy who was smoking for forty-two years, and ended up smoking two to three packs a day, and one day he just set the cigarettes down and said, "Let's see if I can go for one day without it." He did. He then tried the next day. And the next.

He hasn't smoked since. It's been at least ten years. That's friggin' willpower.

Yeah, that's like iron will over there.
There's this nurse I know. She had this patient once, an old woman in her seventies or eighties. She had been smoking since her teens. She was hooked up to machines and had tubes running throughout her body because she could not breathe properly on her own. There was a hole in her neck for something or other. Anyway, she couldn't breathe through her nose and mouth, but she still smoked. The smoke came out of the hole in her neck. Isn't nicotine addiction a beautiful thing?

But then all the non smokers will start coming out.. Why? cause NO SMOKE.. Oh theSmokers will ***** about it for a while, then say hell i need a good time and go out anyway..
Frankly I love this Law.. Cause now i can go out and not have to breath in 500 packs of smokes all at once when I enter the Bar.. and i can go home not smelling like i made love to an ash tray..

Hey, don't get me wrong; I think the law's good for the whole. It's just that being exposed to business and the rantings of my profs all the time, it starts to rub off.
I think smoking should be allowed in bars, but not in restaurants.

Smoking is allowed in private clubs.. But i dont care what other smokers think.. Im very happy they are no longer allowed to smoke in public bars. why Because its not healthy and if non smokers want to have a good time why should we have to breath there second hand smoke till our lungs hurt and you feel like your going to puke in the morning cause of the smoke.. Trust me i know.. Ive been sober at bars and in the morning i feel more ill then the ppl i drove home who were drunk.

    i have on occasion, smoked cigars. i do so because they don't bother me and i can do marx brother impersonations then. never blow that smokeout your nose. it burns. *^-^*;;;

also, let's NOT talk about pot smoking that people do, mkay? this isn't about illegal smoking. heh
