Yeah, if you live in the texas and...well, pretty much the US...you can probably see the vapor trails. Quite something to walk into the breakroom at work (i was in at 6am) and suddenly hear about a shuttle disintegrating. Prayers to all the families involved.

I believe there was 7. 4 US Male crew, 2 US female crew, and 1 Israeli crewmember. He was also the FIRST israeli astronaut. Again, prayers to all.

    Space Shuttle Columbia Destroyed

As I'm sure anyone who has seen the news knows, today the Columbia broke up upon re-entry.

Its crew of 7 were all lost, among them was the first Israeli astronaut. He left behind a wife and 4 children.

My thoughts and prayers go out to their families and the people of NASA.

    :(

Not a very pleasant thing to wake up to.

Current speculation is that the vertical stabilizer of the shuttle suffered a catastrophic failure, resulting in the shuttle spinning out of control and being ripped apart at 12,000mph.

Frankly though, I don't care right now about the speculation, it just doesn't seem right to speculate about the why's and how's this soon after a tragedy.

To those touched by the seven heroes who died doing what they loved, my condolances.

exitzone: hopefully noone here would think that. One wonders though..

I still remember the day in Grade School when the principal walked in and told us all the Challenger had exploded. It hurts to hear it again. The older Columbia kept going all those years, but now the space program has lost more of its own.

2 were Air Force colonels, which hits close to home for me. My dad always wanted to be an astronaut. He got distracted by switching from being a pilot to being a doctor though. I am glad he wasn't there, and pray for those whose loved ones were.

I was at my Taekwondo School's annual inner-school tournament when I heard about the incident. We had a minute of silence for the crew and all of their friends and family . . . .it's an odd feeling to see so many people so quiet and gathered together at the same time.

I think it was doing experiments in space. It started falling a part while it was coming in for a landing.
Ironically, it was 3 days before the anniversary of the Challenger which i believe blew up durring take off in...1989?

Yeah, I had trouble keeping my cool when I heard about that. Even more so after my sources told me it was part of a torso and a thigh. Burnt to a crisp, of course.

    Well he's being honest.
I heard about that thing with the body parts on the news. Gross, sick and disrespectful, that's all I can say about it.
