    It's not the east or the west side ... (no it's not!)
    It's not the north or the south side ... (no it's not!)
    It's the Dark Side! (you are correct!)

    I'm trying to establish what I believe is already a proven fact as proof to a few friends of mine. Here's the question I present to you:

    What is the true Dark Side of Anime? Would you say hentai or dubs? It's very sad, but we have this debate almost on a daily basis. I'll include some other options as well.

    the dark side would have to be "DUBS"...

    well we cant avoid hentai :sweat2:

    DUBS...i absolutly HATE dubs... it was once made me actually hate an anime just because it haaaaad bad dub voices...
    once they dub it.. the anime loses its touch... the japanese show their emotions thru their voice i cant really explain it.. but the voices gives a feel for the anime...
    while DUB voices.... OMG :anger2: .. they seem like they're dead... no emotion at all...

    Well Im going to have to say Hentai.. because most hentai is prety dark and twisted to begin with.. And Hentai is not talked about all the much.. and what is not talked about because its Taboo is I guess the Dark side..

    Dubs are dubs some have been done realy well and some (LIKE FOX) Ruin the anime completely... But ive seen some dubs (bebop) that are far better then the subs!.. but ive seen some dubs that should have the ppl who did it shot! (escaflowne with FOX)


    thats my view of the matter!

    well I voted that Hentai is the Dark side of anime, I'm going to have to agree with what KaMeKaZi said here. I detest Hentai and I think it is dark and well - evil - lol :sweat2: thats the way I feel about all pornography though

    I would have to say Hentai, hentai is the bane of anime,I recal Rob saying once to his hair-cutter, that he was into anime, she looked at him in disgust and said with a sneer 'you like PORN??'
    Hentai gives anime a bad name. People don't know better. Dubs can be fixed, good dubs can exist or be made. whats a good hentai? but a bad one at that... well thats my opinion

    Hentai..

    I had to say Hentai. The majority of anime right now is based on Hentai, or seems to include some sort of it in it. I guess I can say, it's not all that bad, and it IS natural and all..But what happened? Anime used to have all the twisted love stories (Fushigi Yuugi, etc.), but then...in most animes it gets into a twisted Hentai story...and most of then time, tends to get old. ._.;;

    um...i'd say none of the above..^_^;; i think the dark side of anime is more or less something that goes really deep, gets very intense and has a very dark overcast over everything...

    if you dont quite understand, I'd say X or X/1999 is a dark anime.

    i'd mainly just call em all different...i've seen subs and dubs with diff stories for the same show...and i think hentai(and pr0n for that matter) is just funny...some of it's alittle out there, but the stuff i've seen i just can't help but laugh at cause it's soo stupid.(venus5...lol) but, that's me...

    and cause i now have that song in my head...

    we got deathstar!

    For me, none of the above are representatives/the embodiment of anime's dark side. Dubs may be, categorically, terrible (although I am partial to the Trigun dub, and the J Again dub is pretty nice). Also, I may dislike Hentai personally, but you've got to admit, some hentai represented major milestones in anime history (Overfiend being the one I'm thinking of). And actually, it wasn't until I really started getting into anime that I even knew what hentai was. Before that, I just suspected that shows like Pokemon and DBZ were representative of the entire art form.

    Personally, I think that anime's dark side can be summed up in the hack jobs anime and manga get in America and in other countries, when all "objectionable" material is either removed or edited. Dubbing is one thing, blatant bowdlerization is another.

    I would have to say that the dark side of anime is a mixture of Dubs. Not good dubs like Bebop's or even Slayers(with the except of David Moo, the Am voice acter for Xelloss, He must die). Im talking jobs like the one they did on Card Captor Sakura and Escaflowne. Its also a factor of the editing jobs they do. Like mutilating CCS, DBZ(they really killed the first season by cutting out episodes and condensing the fight scenes), and Tekkaman Blade(renaming all the characters even the ones with English names, and changing a characters gender).

    Hentai isnt exactly a great aspect of anime either but at least it can be avoided.

    Yeah, I'm familiar with that scenario. You get those total nincompoops that regard Japanese animation as 1 of 2 things:

    1) animated porn (i.e. Hentai)
    2) kiddie dubs from national television (i.e. the "mons", DBZ, WB-itised translations)

    Those two things are turn-offs, but these people don't know better. They're "uneducated". :D I mean, I still know a guy who refers to anime characters as "Gokus"... *shakes his head disapprovingly*

    In the end though, I don't really get what you mean by "the dark side"...aren't they all just different genres or forms?

    I gotta say dubs on this one. Some dubs (including voices) are just HORRIBLE. x_x The best example of classic bad dubbing is Sailor Moon, I mean dubbing totally diced it.

    About hentai.. there's alot of it there, and I got used to it. -shrug- I don't really consider it a 'dark side' or anything.

    I voted for hentai simply because it's what people *do* think anime is. Granted, that really *really* sucks, but that's how it is here. All (some) people think when they hear "anime" is "Ohh, you're into that?" or "Isn't it for older audiences?" And it really bites.

    But, look at it this way, this is also the country that made Aeon Flux and Heavy Metal. Not to mention dubbed anime...*sweat2:

    Everything has a bad side, deal with it. I have one too, it usually shows up when pictures get taken of me. I don't know why, but people usually run around screaming...

    I own this movie and its not dark at all. its your tipical good versus evil anime.. you want to see a dark anime in terms of mass killing watch Blood Rein or Fist of the north star. Or how about Ninja Scroll that was a lot darker then X

    Don't forget Ninja Resurrection. There's some stuff in there that even freaked out the scary people at school.

    Yes Dubs suck, but hentai I think is the dark form of Animes.
